maybe you should watch the game instead of making stupid comments ?
what part of out chancing the other team out of the building confused you ?

hey look next game they win 6-1 but get 6 fluky goals, i bet you will be here tell us how there offense is awesome

back on topic ..
ill give that matthews line 1 more shot , if not mix it up 2019 style

pick a LW - matthews - nylander
bunting - tavares - marner
pick a LW - kampf - kase
pick a LW - spezza - simmonds

Can you even count?

I give you some pointers.

Put the puck into the net.

If they can do that enough times, maybe they can win the hockey game.

Play on the perimeter and not the dirty areas, is not a formula for success in this league, the NHL.

If we really want to know, that is the reason they fired Babcock, the team had enough of him telling the players to go play in the dirty areas.

The players all think the same way. They think this is Toronto, and playing in the dirty areas is someone's else job.

Look good with the puck on the perimeter, and the fans will be happy.

Winning is secondary.

The first 10 games of the season is always more loose, which should mean we should see some more offense. We have not.

This team has trouble scoring. When it's tighter by mid-November, it will have more trouble scoring.

Reactions: JT AM da real deal
When healthy:

Micheyev - Matthews - Nylander = FINESSE LINE
Bunting - Tavares - Marner = CRASH THE NET LINE
Kerfoot - Kampf - Kase = SHUT DOWN LINE
Ritchie - Spezza - Simmonds = FOURTH LINE
I like this. But why not try:
Willie 34 Mitchie (kinda like what the Bruins did with Pasta, Bergeron and the rat)
Bunting JT Kase
Kerfoot Kampf Michy
Richie Spezz Simmonds
You have Engvall to sub throughout the lineup.
Just a thought. I think Willie is taking a step to the next level this year.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Nylander - Tavares - Kase
Kerfoot - Kampf - Ritchie
Engvall - Spezza - Simmonds

Thanks, but no thanks buddy.

I bet on something everyday, have enough action as it is.

Hockey is generally not something I bet, because I don't want to find out who is playing goal. I did it one year, too much work.

I just wait for the coach to give us the low down, then we unload, lol.

You're not betting on a game, you're betting on where a team will finish in scoring.

Doesn't sound like you're willing to put your money where your mouth is with your awful takes.

Actually Keefe decides those things.

Yes that in combination with Leafs having EASIEST opening month of competition in NHL should help get them looking good in standings at start .. perimeter hockey never wins at end of season or in playoffs .. but most Leaf fans have no idea .. only da very few get it .. it has been 5 years and people still can't see it .. and our media types are clueless as most never really played

Head coaches make lineup and deployment decisions. There's nothing to support baseless claims that Matthews decides those things. The coach plays Matthews and Marner together and gives them solid ice time because that is what's best for the team.

your comments mean absolute shit because you dont watch the games.
exactly winning is secondary ... your proving your own point . if they dominate a game and get dozens of scoring chances in the slot , breakaways, powerplay etc. and the goalie is standing on his head, dont come on these boards and say there offense sucks ... you know whos offense sucks ? the canadiens because they dont score and get out chanced every game (a really bad combination)

u think a top 5 offense last year will finish 28th this year ?? its 4 games ... people ... stop freakin out.
now ge tback on the topic of the thread and stop derailing it with your nonsense.

Oh to be naive again...

It's not naive to acknowledge the truth.

Want to know what was said about our captain in New York?

They spent $7 million to remodel the practice facility. They hired a chef. At every step, they wanted the captain’s input — signed or not. “Some of us joked about it,” one player says. “We started telling him to ask for other things...”

Another teammate confirms that account. “[It was] as much power as I’ve seen any player have.

...given Lamoriello’s history, Tavares had to know that anything outside of hockey wasn’t going to be his business.

How the Toronto Maple Leafs signed John Tavares - Sportsnet.ca

You think player input ended with Dubas and Keefe? That Dubas adopted Lou’s my way or the highway approach?

Same article:

Dubas gave his highly quoted answer to the question of whether or not he could keep all four of Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares: “We can… and we will.” Tavares demanded that commitment. If he was going to make the leap, he craved assurances the team would not go backward.

Lot of un-named sources,

Would any of it be surprising?

Didn’t we all agree that the players quit on Babcock?

Matthews already criticized Keefe’s coaching and left the ice. That happened.

Babcock did have to fly to Arizona to try to mend the relationship.

First thing Keefe did was put Marner with Matthews and up his ice time.

Coincidence?

Matthews will be UFA. I think he’s more likely to stay if he gets what he wants... don’t you?

I'm not sure what you think some cherry picked quote from an article on Tavares' situation in New York during their desperate attempt to keep Tavares (which doesn't even involve making lineup or deployment decisions, and had to do with showing Tavares that things in the organization were going to be different if he stayed) has to do with your baseless claim about Matthews making lineup and deployment decisions for the Toronto Maple Leafs instead of the head coach.

And even in that Tavares situation that your own article calls extremely, extremely rare, some quotes are missing.

"The way he went about it, he left the Islanders much better off. That’s his legacy. He’s not here, but the things he changed will make us better."
"He won’t have to concern himself with any of this in Toronto."

Stop making baseless claims about Matthews.

Not surprising most professional teams cater to their franchise players. Those that don't risk that player wanting out. See Aaron Rogers, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson.

Unless Matthews moderates this thread, I really don’t see the point in making any combo suggestions involving him.

Matthews plays with who Matthews wants to play with. And he plays for as many minutes as he wants.

Combo suggestions are speculation if it's not the actual roster Keefe is dressing.

Assuming you're correct, guessing who matthews wants to play with is also speculation.

So no, you're wrong. Everyone continue posting your lineups.

If its up to you the board would be deleted because we're not even allowed discussing regular season games. Have to wait until playoffs before discussing right ?

All sports teams cater to their top stars, but not all Top stars deliver championship.
MJ openly stated if Phil is not the coach, he is gone. Or Phil asked MJ-Rodman is taking a break mid season.
Lebron with his decisons.
Pretty sure Wayne asked for McSorley.
Lindros with 'I won't play in Quebec.'
CR7 with, I want to play for ManU again.
Even Dougie asked not to be traded to the West bc he wanted to stay close to his family, Leafs could have Naslund if Dougie okay the trade to Nucks.

IF you bring the team success, you can ask for the moon. So far, none of the Leafs have led the team to any success unless making the playoffs is consider success.

This is all public consumption BS .. get all fans to think in a certain direction .. JT always wanted to be a Leaf and even dum *ss Burkie knew it at draft .. Shanny's and Tavares' been good friends across both families for many many many years much much before Shanny was even involved with Leafs.. I am talking uncles and bros which go back to childhood/box lacrosse .. it was always either back to Isle or TO .. and as most of time da heart always wins out .. all Lou was trying to do was swing da pendulum closer to his budds on Isles .. literally JT decided da day before when he woke up to inform Dubie .. he is not type of guy who reacts well to concept of being woooed (kinda like Shanny too)

Was never a fan of the Ritchie signing. It's only been 4 games, but he's played exactly as I expected, in line with what Boston fans said about him.

He doesn't really have defensive value, is too slow to be a forecheck/disrupter, and has never been an effective net-front player. He's a distance shooter and has always played that way. That type of player just isn't very useful on a line with Matthews or Nylander. Unfortunately with the Mikheyev injury and losing Brooks, there's a lot less lineup flexibility now.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Kase
Simmonds - Spezza - Amadio

I think this is just what they have to roll with until Mikheyev is back. Kerfoot has always played his best and shown good chemistry with Nylander. Bunting can be a garbage man for Matthews' shot attempts. The 3rd line might not be suited to big minutes, but they shouldn't get them in such a top-heavy lineup anyway.

Talk about them all you want. Much like the way we can discuss what happened in a Ted Lasso episode.

It’s when folks start getting into “this proves” or this is a “statement game” and all that garbage.

Playoffs proves everything.

So no Ritchie at all in our lineup sire? Not at all?
