Lol I do agree the ownership wants to force the jerseys on to us (that's the reason they changed them in the first place) but the giving out free jerseys is a bad example. Its a free jersey, you don't have to wear it if you don't want to
They also had the players not in tonight going around the arena giving new jerseys away. ****ing clown ownership will do anything they can to phase out the old jerseys.
FWIW they gave out exactly 1 free jersey last night. At that rate given the arena has a little over 16,000 seats and 41 home games per year they will have fully converted the arena to the new ones in 390 years.
Those sneaky owners
Yeah promoting their product is a clown thing for sure. I guess when they had that vending machine at the open practice where you could win merch or tickets was clownish too. Sometime you guys just nit pick to argue about something.
I'm curious how you know it was only 1?
Yea, that's it. Arguing for the sake of arguing. Not that I see them tearing down tradition in the form of our jerseys, the same jersey the team's been wearing for ~25 years and has won 3 cups in...to replace them with a poorly designed practice jersey with swimmies. Then, after getting endlessly roasted about it after the initial reveal, instead of addressing the fan reaction...they double down and try to promote this trash. Nothing to do with that, just trying to argue.

Eh I think the new jerseys are at best hold my nose passable, but giving whatever amount away isn't some evil conspiracy. Security isn't demanding we hand in the old ones at the entrances. Of course they're going to want to promote their new (downgraded imo) product and that's completely their prerogative.
Besides this and the goal song fiasco imo, new ownership has been solid stewards of the franchise. They, or more likely Hugh Weber, just seem to really have a knack for bungling the rollout of their new ideas. Someone said it above or in another thread, Vanderbeek's many woes aside, he certainly had a better pulse of the fan base.
1) I simply hate that reasoning. Just because something has been done for 25 years and we won Cups 2 decades ago means nothing to me. Plenty of other way more successful franchises than ours have changed their logos or jerseys COMPLETELY. The Devils took away a stripe and you guys are losing your minds over it for some reason. The colors, logo, and general design of the jersey are all the same. Think about that.
2) What, exactly, did you want them to do? Do you honestly believe that they were going to change the jerseys back THIS season?
And how do you know it was more than one?
Well, likewise, "other teams did it too" isn't exactly a great reason to be ok with a bad change. I would have been fine, or at least not near as negative, with the example jerseys posted a few pages ago. It's not just the breaking of tradition, it's the breaking of tradition for a poorly designed replacement. And they did more than just take away a stripe. The way I viewed the jerseys, there was 5 major components. Logo, color pattern, shoulders, sleeve stripes, waist stripes. They changed 3 of the 5...granted, the 2 that remained the same were the 2 most critical components. It was not some small change.
As for what specifically I would have wanted them to do, I'm not sure. Coming out and saying they'd switch back wouldn't go over well with Adidas, so that couldn't happen. Generally though, literally anything other than sending a message that they don't give a **** about fan opinion and doubling down on the jerseys. Let the damn season play out and make the switch when possible.
Don't know for sure, which is why I asked, but it should be a fairly safe assumption that if a team dressed up a star player in "disguise" to hand out a jersey to a fan...they'd be doing it for more than one single jersey.
This board - "The negative reaction to the jerseys on social media and the poll on this board can not be taken as an accurate representation on how the fans as a whole feel"
Also this board - "The one social media user we've seen post about getting a free jersey must represent the entirety of people who received a jersey last night"
Yea i don't understand the logic of "at least the colors and logo are the same". Everything should be the same! Most teams kept their exact jerseys! We voluntarily changed!
Why should we praise them for not changing something when they could/should have not changed anything at all?
You're now trying to compare apples to oranges. This was a manufactured/planned promo by the Devils to get exposure (and it worked pretty well). Of course they would want this to be blasted as much as possible and if they had other jerseys to give out, they sure as hell would have made it known.
A bit different than a bunch of people on a message board coming up with tinfoil hat theories about Adidas stock levels to knock on the new jerseys/ownership and claim they speak for the majority.
I don't think ANYONE is saying that they should be praised. It's just that a lot of y'all are making it seem a lot worse than it is.
The context of the change is a big part of the reason people are so angry.
The context of the change was to see how many suckers out there will buy it because they think they have to be "current".
It's the same context as other teams that have done this.
Step 1: Make change solely to sell merch to suckers.
Step 2: Rake in money from suckers.
Step 3: make some new changes to appease suckers and turn it into a third jersey
Step 4: rake in more money from said suckers.
Step 5: make third the new jersey
Step 6: Rake in money. Rinse and repeat
Me too. My Rafalski will remain my main jersey, thank you very much. I won't be giving this franchise a time in merchandise revenue. If I do buy one, it'll be a Reebok.Yup. Not from me though.
I'll keep wearing my Koho & CCM jerseys, from back when men were men.
The last jerseys I actually paid for I got in like 2001/2002 and it's the same jerseys I still wear lol
The Devils took away a stripe
The wider white stripes don't bother me as much when play is ongoing and the camera is zoomed out, but when it zooms in they really bug me.The wider white stripes were more noticeable to me last night than the shoulders. Also, are the numbers on the back bigger or do they just look that way because of the lack of waist stripes?
