They deserved a game like that where they lose in regulation. Didn’t think Vanecek was bad tonight when he gave up a breakaway, 2 back door goals and a goal to the best 5v5 sniper in the league. Bratt not finishing the breakaway + Haula overpassing in the slot comes to mind too

Vany gave up four goals but he wasn’t the problem. This is why shot vs high danger shots are a thing in analytics. The Devils were so f$&king sloppy tonight. Just a bad game from the defense. Every goal was wide open and a breakaway. Vany or Schmid shouldn’t have to carry the team every night.

They played well over all, but they have to cut down on critical mistakes. Goal 1 was the result of a bad pinch by Hamilton. On goal e, Bahl was out too wide and allowed the Leafs player come down the middle. We needed a save from VV on the shortie or of the Matthews shot. I don’t know what Timo was doing with his stick in the air leading to the penalty.

Samsonov played a good game. Vitek wasn't as clutch. Top-6 is still meshing with Timo.

Not a bad game overall, but a few mistakes killed us.

Our PP is literally top half… We’ve outplayed 3 contenders in a row… Vanecek has sucked lately and they aren’t finishing as well as they should. f*** off with this bullshit.
It literally isn’t. It was 19th? 20th?

You can be rude when you disagree and post like that all you want, but the reality is, we continue to eke out wins, have lapses like this every game, and are starting now to have goaltending issues on top of it. We’ve had these issues for some time. In the playoffs your only games are against better competition. We can’t afford to play like this in a series.

Lame. But when you are playing so many games to the wire the coin is gonna end up facing the wrong way up sometimes.

Still had a blast. Toronto just matches us up really well.

The goal I didn't like was goal 3. He played it horribly.

I don't nail the goalie with a stoppable goal for those, but that was played so horribly

@JK3 was the first to point that out

He wasn’t the total issue, but I am worried as heck about his over corrections to shots coming from sharp side angles. As soon as that isn’t cleared it’s a tap in and there’s several of those in the last few games

Lapses should happen rarely. They can't happen 20 times a game. We won't always be able to outscore those lapses. Siegs has to remember how to play hockey again. Him being garbage is really hurting them.

It's not a panic thing. But it is something that will burn us in the playoffs as others have pointed out. This season has been a resounding success regardless of what happens in the playoffs, but these games show the team is likely not ready to compete for a Cup yet.

Thank you for explaining it in more detail for me. I'm way too lazy to do such thing :P

Especially when he's being played with Hughes, who has not looked himself of late.

I'm confident they will put it together and develop chemistry in time for the playoffs. There are times you can see flashes of it, but the scoring isn't quite there yet.
It would be good if we could ease Timo in on the Haula liine but they are playing too good. It is going to slow the Nico or Jack line down with someone that is learning to play with these players/system. That is why Fitz says he does not like big deadline deals - it takes time to build chemistry

Gotta love this. Seems like it's always said when it's been a very common theme for them. It's what's holding them back, but you seem fine with it.
Meh, I have a hard time being too mad with the 3rd highest amount of points in the league. There has to be some good in there.
