Compare his behaviour with Landeskog, for instance. Someone who gets it versus someone who clearly doesn't intend on getting it.

Fair enough. Landeskog has all the apperances of a great leader and I think he'll eventually become one. He's "stately". Yet his team is underperforming greatly, as is he. PK Subban has been a much better leader in the 2014-15 season than has Landeskog. I doubt you'd find many to disagree with that fact.
I think too many make judgements on superficial aspects. They see Landsekog as a strong, clean cut guy. Always plays hard never says or does anything negative and think great captain. Well maybe he can't inspire his teammates?
And they read tabloids and see PK as a brash out of control youngster. But maybe he can inspire his teammates.
