Believe me, I've defending my view on DD many, many times.I get that people hate DD, but comments like this are so laughably wrong and indefensible. It's nothing but blind hate
He lacks the fundamentals to be an NHL centre. I mean the very basic ones - speed, strength, size, reach, defensive awareness, etc. He can be an exploitation centre, maybe a unique winger, but he's not a centre at this level of play and it's plain as day.
Just because he's managed to play doesn't mean he's fit for the job - there are many jobs that people aren't optimized for but they do anyway.
Fair statement. There's some truth there, but we need to recognize that there are no players left in the league that emulate Beliveau.
There are very few players who practise sportsmanship and even fewer who are gentlemen.
We're a couple generations away from that mindset, regrettably.
I think Mike Richards, precipitous drop in talent and production aside, was still a fine captain despite his off-ice partying. I just don't think a player who goads others into dropping the gloves, who is too jokey-jokey or who dives as much as Subban does is every going to be respected as a captain.
Shame you think that way. I think nothing but the worst for every Bruin and fans, I hate them so so so so much. And I hate their attitude and hypocrisy and everything about them and their fans and that ******** cup they got off the back of Campbell and Jacobs. You've been drinking the Bruins Kool-aid lately.
FFS.
This isn't a Bruins kool-aid thing. I genuinely don't think Subban is suited for the role.
I don't disagree at all. But Subban isn't there yet and his conduct and comportment don't indicate as much either.I lived in Connecticut when the lengendary Pronger was drafted a saviour. And he proceeded to get in bar room brawls and DUI. And then within 4 years he was captain of St. Louis.
There's two types of captains. The stately Beliveau / Lindstrom type and the brash / charismatic type. Both types can be great leaders. I think too many people confuse being captain with being the Lady Bing trophy winner. You can be brash and be a great leader (plenty of examples in NHL and world history). Crosby whines more than anybody in the league and is considered a good captain.
We've had a string of "nice" guy captains like Gionta who haven't inspired much. So cherry picking incidents over the course of young players career is not indicative of anything. He'd be a great captain
Compare his behaviour with Landeskog, for instance. Someone who gets it versus someone who clearly doesn't intend on getting it.
He doesn't have to be captain!! I still love him anyway!!
