I get that people hate DD, but comments like this are so laughably wrong and indefensible. It's nothing but blind hate
Believe me, I've defending my view on DD many, many times.

He lacks the fundamentals to be an NHL centre. I mean the very basic ones - speed, strength, size, reach, defensive awareness, etc. He can be an exploitation centre, maybe a unique winger, but he's not a centre at this level of play and it's plain as day.

Just because he's managed to play doesn't mean he's fit for the job - there are many jobs that people aren't optimized for but they do anyway.

There's some truth there, but we need to recognize that there are no players left in the league that emulate Beliveau.

There are very few players who practise sportsmanship and even fewer who are gentlemen.

We're a couple generations away from that mindset, regrettably.
Fair statement.

I think Mike Richards, precipitous drop in talent and production aside, was still a fine captain despite his off-ice partying. I just don't think a player who goads others into dropping the gloves, who is too jokey-jokey or who dives as much as Subban does is every going to be respected as a captain.

You've been drinking the Bruins Kool-aid lately.

FFS.
Shame you think that way. I think nothing but the worst for every Bruin and fans, I hate them so so so so much. And I hate their attitude and hypocrisy and everything about them and their fans and that ******** cup they got off the back of Campbell and Jacobs.

This isn't a Bruins kool-aid thing. I genuinely don't think Subban is suited for the role.

I lived in Connecticut when the lengendary Pronger was drafted a saviour. And he proceeded to get in bar room brawls and DUI. And then within 4 years he was captain of St. Louis.

There's two types of captains. The stately Beliveau / Lindstrom type and the brash / charismatic type. Both types can be great leaders. I think too many people confuse being captain with being the Lady Bing trophy winner. You can be brash and be a great leader (plenty of examples in NHL and world history). Crosby whines more than anybody in the league and is considered a good captain.

We've had a string of "nice" guy captains like Gionta who haven't inspired much. So cherry picking incidents over the course of young players career is not indicative of anything. He'd be a great captain
I don't disagree at all. But Subban isn't there yet and his conduct and comportment don't indicate as much either.

Compare his behaviour with Landeskog, for instance. Someone who gets it versus someone who clearly doesn't intend on getting it.

He doesn't have to be captain!! I still love him anyway!!

Disagree. Action speak louder than words. Leaders lead by example.

Isn't that PK's best trait? If you want someone to talk the talk and walk the walk, I don't think there's anyone better than PK on this team. Now obviously, there's other stuff that come into play an I do agree with W7 in certain regards. I think PK is best suited for an A overall. Pac is more of a prototypical captain, but as I've said quite a few times already, I want Max to bring it in the playoffs at least once before stitching the C on his jersey.

I doubt you can call Messier and Richard "interoverts".

I'm pretty sure they were vocal on the bench and in the room.

Maybe you need to learn the definition of Introvert

Means shy...likes to be among his own thoughts and have his alone time...ther are many definitions. Maurice was never loud. Not in the way PK is. Nice try buddy.

by the way...i could give a **** who the next captain is. Give it to Weise for all I care. It's an overrated concept anyway. Does not matter.

Quiet and shy are two entirely different things. I doubt Richard was a shy guy. I highly doubt it.

I think Andrei Kostitsyn was the best leader the Habs have ever had.

Cool. Maurice was a poor leader then. The Rocket was a poor leader...wow.

Or how about just the stare from a Messier. No need to be loud.

As mentioned by another poster, you haven't the faintest idea of the definition of introvert. Being loud for the sake of being loud usually means low self confidence. Being a vocal leader doesn't mean you're loud.

It's funny how defensive people are in here about leadership and self confidence. Kind of funny.

Here's the CBC poll earlier in the season as to whom should be next Habs captain. PK won by the way.

"It's going to be great," he said. "I can't wait for the crowd, the noise, the energy in the building.

"I can't wait to take that all away from them."

Subban.

He had me with this quote and with the performance he put up in this game.
