Sakic was timid? Really. He was quiet but tough as nails. Nice try though.

Sakic and Yzerman were timid, in term of personality, yes absolutely. Both were stellar leader on the ice.

The split between leaders like Sakic/Yzerman and Messier/Richard is probably 50/50.

He doesn't have to be captain!! I still love him anyway!!
Did anyone actually ask him his opinion?

Maybe he doesn't even want to have the C.

He's very effective without it.

I don't like it when you say he's a dirtbag, but he kinda is.

Mesozoic standards. You can sucker punch a guy after the whistle with your glove, but don't psych him out. Cause that's bad.
Captains can play dirty, and they do. They fight and claw and do whatever it takes to win... they can't play like rats though, it's rarely worth it and always has bad optics. Call me old fashioned, fine.

So you calling a big mouth player because he's charismatic? There's extreme to any personality type and to just say PK is immature and a poor leader because you "think" he's a loud mouth.

In my opinion, being a quiet, introvert is a poor model for a leader. Timid quiet people make awful leaders. It doesn't exude confidence. Being vocal and strong vocally is an important part of leadership.
I like his charisma. I just don't think it's captain of the Montreal Canadiens material.

The gold standard is Beliveau, don't forget.

And you're way off on the leader stuff - there are leaders in every mold but they all share determination, professionalism and that je-ne-sais-quoi that makes people look to them when things are bleak or when there are unknowns to face. I don't think Gionta had the raw talent to lead his team and I don't think Pacioretty has the grit or determination... Subban has both but he doesn't have the comportment.

Sakic was timid? Really. He was quiet but tough as nails. Nice try though.
Sakic is one of the best examples I could think of - Subban is nothing like him in terms of leadership-style.

Subban gets so much attention from the refs that he doesn't even have time to talk about his teams grievances. He has too many thoughtless PIMs and too many dives to be captain, end of story.

Isn't that PK's best trait? If you want someone to talk the talk and walk the walk, I don't think there's anyone better than PK on this team. Now obviously, there's other stuff that come into play an I do agree with W7 in certain regards. I think PK is best suited for an A overall. Pac is more of a prototypical captain, but as I've said quite a few times already, I want Max to bring it in the playoffs at least once before stitching the C on his jersey.
Well said.

I love Subban and I love his play. He just isn't a captain.

Means shy...likes to be among his own thoughts and have his alone time...ther are many definitions. Maurice was never loud. Not in the way PK is. Nice try buddy.
Thank you. You'd never hear Landeskog or Tavares or Crosby or Stamkos or ANYONE talk about farting on national TV. Subban has a big personality, it just isn't a captain's personality and I'm 100% sure his teammates agree.

Maybe if he really takes the reigns and puts the team on his back from here on out and we win the cup... but as it stands, no way.
