There are no words to describe just how Phenomenal Jack is.

Unreal.

And while the Devils could not end it in Regulation, AT LEAST THEY ENDED IT IN OT AND AVOIDED THE STUPID POS GIMMICK.

That's a MUCH MUCH needed win (and 2 points) by the Devils.

And now?

I am HAPPY and OPTIMISTIC.....at least until Tuesday.

Jack 2 Goals 2 Assists (an absolute Monster of a game) - 10 points on the season thus far

Bratt 3 Assists (and also being physical and being on the PK late which is great to see) - right behind Jack with 8 points.

Oh and congrats to Toffoli for netting his first as a Devil.

Now....the happy stuff is over.

The Not-Happy stuff :

The status of Nico.

These first four games look like circa two years ago, the only difference being that Jack is better and able to put the team on his back.

Shmid was shaky the whole game. Defense is a total slop fest, no cohesiveness or attention detail, running around like chickens.

Islanders may be nothing without Sorokin, but we are currently nothing without Jack.

Need to hope these things get better as the season goes on, right now they have the look of a bubble team.
Off the top of my head Bratter and Dougie are doing a lot. The team played a REAL strong game tonight. Schmid looked like garbage though.

Timo was MUCH better at RW. Also 2 assists will help the confidence. Hes not quite there yet but a big step forward tonight IMO. He was crashing the net, deflecting pucks, screening the goalie. That’s what you want along with his transition play.

Thoughts:

1. 5-on-5 Jack and Bratt need to be separated. They play a similar game with their skating and putting them on separate lines gives the top 2 lines an easy zone entry guy.

2. Goaltending needs to be better obviously. But they are scoring and getting points. They will be fine long term.

3. Hopefully Nico isn’t a long term injury. That third period got a little sloppy (game situation obviously played a role too).

Good win.

Defense was perfectly fine besides Smith. Devils win this game 9 out of 10 times. The exact game you want. It was simply goaltending that made it competitive.

Am I the only one getting more and more annoyed at the fact that Jack is never on the ice in the final minute with a goal lead? I mean the puck always finds his stick and he has the jets to exit the zone
