NJDevs, you are my spirit animal here.

Those teams(including us) that passed him down to Seattle will regret it BIG TIME down the road.

Seattle is going to have one hell of a motivated Wright here who will undoubtedly kill us(the Devils) whenever he plays them.

And will Nemec be on the team when that happens? From indications from Fitz, nope. He'll probably be in the AHL which makes sense (needs to learn Defense first)
Wright isn't the next McDavid, and us passing isn't THAT big of a snub

He's gonna be on a shittily run kraken team and while he's gonna be a pillar for them to build on, we already have our top 2Cs set

Where on the wing was he supposed to play anyway? (Serious q)

I would also like to say that I don’t hate Nemec. He’s a real solid player that I think I wrote projects well as a good #3 who can play well in transition and on the powerplay. At the #2 pick, though, there were much better players available. He will no doubt be a valuable player for the organization, but there could have been better.

You don’t pick eighteen year olds because of need, period. The way everyone accused Shero of doing with Zacha and McLeod. Only this time there’s more tangible proof Fitz did that.

Nobody said he made the pick for need. He identified places where the Devils were weak, that doesn't mean he made the pick for need.

Personally I was on the anyone-but-Wright train and I'm glad we got what looks like a good defenseman.

Basically where I am as well. He's "fine" but I think there were better picks to make.

Curious why no to Wright?

He has more than top pairing ceiling. The kid is an absolute stud.

As is common for young, offensive-minded defensemen, Nemec's defensive game is his largest weakness. He often plays very large gaps when defending the rush, which gives the opposing forwards too much time and space to get around him and make plays toward the net.

In the defensive zone, he can appear tentative, which is in contrast to how he plays on the offensive side of the puck. His high hockey IQ means he understands how to follow the play, but he gets lost at times and can get caught puck-watching.

THIS is who Fitz drafted, folks.

A d-man whose weakness is PLAYING F'N DEFENSE!

Seriously.

I mean are you kidding me here???

At #2.

What in the actual F***, FITZ?

We gave up Shane Wright for this guy?

I hope he pans out like some of you claim 'cause if he doesn't, we will forever regret this choice for a long-ass time.

Calm down, literally every d-man prospect are weak on defense outside those defensive pylons. His defense isn't his strength but it's really not that bad. He had some really good defensive plays at the WC.

He's listed as 185 cm on Elite Prospects, which I'm guessing is the combine number. So he's like 6' and 3/4 inch, but they rounded up.
The combine number was straight up 6’ I believe. That’s the number I’d believe.

Edit: never mind I was talking about the central scouting one
That should be accurate though too

I looked up combine measurements and he wasn't listed. Did he chose not to measure? If he did then he's probably shorter than he says

Wright must have had a number of red flags which not only mtl, us Arizona passed on him and 2 out of three of those teams are center deprived

He was ranked top 4 picks in a lot of projections, there's def an argument for bpa FORWARD, but there's def a pro to drafting a top end D man. If we had no opportunity to trade back a spot or 2, so be it

Cheer up, we're all just speculating at this point anyway
I'm trying to cheer up.

I'm seriously trying HARD to cheer up right now.....

...but I think what will turn my frown upside-down is Bratt finally re-signing.

THAT would do it.

That’s not necessarily true at all. I’d bet it has a lot more to do with liking the players they took over him than Wright having red flags.

that’s usually true, but when you literally have one of the best prospect pools in hockey and you have multiple high draft picks over several years- including 2 number 1’s- it actually makes sense to draft for need. this was a great pick, i think anyone who thought fitz would bring in a 1C was out to lunch.

Montreal passing him up is one thing but at least they did it for Slaf. Arizona might be one of the few franchises even more inept and loser-y than ours though.

Not as wide as Shane's.
That's a good think no?

Have to believe need played into it. Which is fine, Nemec is right there with those other guys, so yeah, need wins out.
