So I died for a few hours after the pic. Where does Nemec realistically play next season?

I’ll rewatch my film on Nemec tomorrow and reevaluate my judgements on his defense. IIRC though I thought his positioning was beyond poor especially in transition and he lacked the ability to utilize his body effectively. I probably wrote a little bit more but I don’t have it in front of me.

I hope to God Dougie returns to form, because this guy is not going to be a 1rst pairing Dman. I think Fitz was probably aiming to make a deal after Slaf went 1OA and all the other GMs called his bluff. Consider my boner killed. That being said, I'm rooting for the kid.
what scouting have you done/read to determine he will not be a first pairing dman?

Find it absolutely impossible to get even remotely excited about draft picks. I basically say the same thing every year, I hope the guy that I've barely seen play turns out to be good.

I am absolutely sick of the draft being the only thing our pathetic franchise looks forward to every year though. Hopefully we don't suck again this season.
I think we should legitimately be in the market to find a top tier scoring (and skating) winger for Hughes. We need a finisher now as much as ever we did. It's our number one need after a goalie.

I'll give him a chance.

Only because I have no choice but to give him a chance.

I hope for everyone's sake here that he develops into the player you all think he can be.

Fitz put his ass on the line basically with this pick.

Let's see what happens going forward.....sigh....
He was ranked top 4 picks in a lot of projections, there's def an argument for bpa FORWARD, but there's def a pro to drafting a top end D man. If we had no opportunity to trade back a spot or 2, so be it

Cheer up, we're all just speculating at this point anyway

18 year old d-men need work defending? Really?

I'm fine with the pick. I would love to hear some scouts talk about doubting Wright. Pretty interesting to see what happens over the next 4-5 years.
Wright did go #4 OA.

He did fall from the consensus #1OA pedestal, but I think scouts still like him plenty.

Would you rather Fitz take the player he wants and like’s more or just go with the player he’s expected to take?

I’d rather a GM put his ass on the line than just make the easy and safe decisions for himself.

The easy thing to do would’ve been to take Wright. Fitz wanted someone else and went for it.

We’ll see how it plays out but he’s a great prospect and this should put our d-core in a great spot for the next decade.

They wanted Slaf at 2 and MTL took their bluff, I like Nemec but I would’ve traded down for him

Trade down for what? To get some added pick who will likely be a scrub that never makes it to the NHL? When you can have the sure thing in Nemec?
I would not be shocked if Arizona picked him. They passed on Wright. And you are left with what? Inferior player like Jiricek?

And what were the questions on Wright really…that his production was down after a pandemic year of not playing? Gee that won’t impact a 17 year old, having a full year of not playing. This organization zigs when it should zag.
NJDevs, you are my spirit animal here.

Those teams(including us) that passed him down to Seattle will regret it BIG TIME down the road.

Seattle is going to have one hell of a motivated Wright here who will undoubtedly kill us(the Devils) whenever he plays them.

And will Nemec be on the team when that happens? From indications from Fitz, nope. He'll probably be in the AHL which makes sense (needs to learn Defense first)
