Curious why no to Wright?

Didn't think we needed a center with his profile. Looks to be a fine player but this is where need does come into play, Shane Wright didn't envision himself going to a team with 2 young star centers on top of him. Cooley I thought could move to wing.

Wright must have had a number of red flags which not only mtl, us Arizona passed on him and 2 out of three of those teams are center deprived
Corey Pronman’s article basically boiled down to:

“He doesn’t do anything really special and how come he rarely dominates games if he’s so good?”

Pronman asked scouts to give him games where Wright really stood out and most could only give him periods within games or nothing at all.

Montreal passing him up is one thing but at least they did it for Slaf. Arizona might be one of the few franchises even more inept and loser-y than ours though.
Man there’s was lots of people who had Cooley over Wright and Slafkovsky

Wright isn't the next McDavid, and us passing isn't THAT big of a snub

He's gonna be on a shittily run kraken team and while he's gonna be a pillar for them to build on, we already have our top 2Cs set

Where on the wing was he supposed to play anyway? (Serious q)
Hmmm....

You could have put him on a line with Bratt or Hughes and then work it out with the rest of the lineup later.

I don't think it would've been that difficult to find a spot for him.

Anyway, it's a moot point now.

All hail Nemec, I guess. woo hoo. Or something.

Adam Kimelman - NHL.com - June 29th: "Nemec (6-foot, 190) is a right-handed shot with an outstanding two-way game who is close to being NHL-ready. He skates extremely well, which allows him to add to the offensive attack and be quick enough to defend in transition."

Mike - Morreale - June 29th: "The right-handed shot plays big minutes and brings excellent mobility, balance, puck-handling and skating to create openings for teammates."

Peter Harling - NHL Rumors - June 27th: "Nemec may not match the size and all-around game of Jiricek, but his offensive upside may be unmatched in this draft class from the back end. His hockey sense, vision and passing ability are NHL-ready now."

Jeff Svoboda - NHL.com - June 27: "Nemec's speed, vision and power-play abilities make him a high-level offensive player from the blue line, but he's also smart and physical enough to go into the corners and get the job done defensively."

Samuel Tirpak - Dobber Prospects - June 18th: "He can quarterback a powerplay well and can also defend a rush well with his smart gap control. He needs to work on defensive zone positioning and especially the consistency of his in-zone coverage but the belief is that there have been great signs of development throughout his draft year and prior viewings."

Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - June 6th: "Nemec is a calculated and poised three-zone defender who is capable of organizing play from the top of the zone, executing through seams in coverage at a high level, and starting and leading his fair share of rushes."

Corey Pronman - The Athletic - May 31: "Nemec is a very well-rounded defenseman. His puck game is great. He has the high-end brain to make a lot of tough plays often. Nemec can hit seams, make plays under pressure and makes a great outlet pass."

Chris Peters - Daily Faceoff - June 10th: "Nemec is clearly an intelligent offensive defenseman who defends at an average level. He is best with the puck on his stick, pushing pucks up ice and making plays. The offensive toolkit and offensive sense he possesses is clearly advanced for his age."

Ben Kerr - Last Word On Sports - May 5th: "Nemec’s ceiling is to be a true #1 franchise defender once he matures. He will need to iron out a few things in his game, such as being smarter with his offensive zone entries and continuing to add weight to his frame. His game is reminiscent of Roman Josi. However, this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill and ability."

Peter Barachini - The Hockey Writers - March 16th "Nemec is an outstanding, two-way, puck moving defenseman. The thing that stands out the most in regards to his play, is his poise and confidence when he’s on the ice. Every decision he makes is with conviction as he displays high-end hockey sense. Even if he’s facing a great amount of pressure or makes a high risk move, he doesn’t panic as he has excellent patience and control. He has great body positioning and does a great job of evading and fending off opposing players, when in that situation. "

Would love to find out what those so-called "Red flags" were.

Or maybe they just preferred other players to him and there were no red flags at all.

Whatever.

Congrats to Seattle Kraken fans, you lucked the ever F**K out in landing the #1 pick in the draft at #4.

He has more than top pairing ceiling. The kid is an absolute stud.
Sure, we can say his ceiling is that high. He could in theory reach that level given his skill set. Personally, though, I don’t think he will reach that level of play based on what I have seen from him, but that’s just me. I would love to be proven wrong in my assessment of the player. I don’t think his offense will be at a high enough level, nor his defense, to ever be considered a true top pairing defenseman.

That’s your opinion but most people in the hockey world disagree with you.

I disagree and we’ll see what happens.

Not when you’re comparing it to Slafkovsky’s production.
His production wasn’t nearly as bad as people are suggesting. The player who has taken first over him’s was easily worse
