He’s maybe more well-rounded, but I think Lukes offensive upside and skating makes him more of an immediate impact.
I'm probably lower on Luke than most. I think there are some concerning things defensively. And I worry about the hockey IQ vs. just being able to dominate with his athletic tools at the college level.

EP Rinkside has a Frozen Four preview and Luke's pairing with Pehrson are running a 53% CF%, which while good, doesn't seem stunning considering his prospect status and the general talent level on Michigan. For context, the Edwards-Casey pair are 57.4%.
Just mentioned it in the Utica thread, but Nemec is also 3rd on the team in SOG's, just 2 behind Walsh who has played 6 more games then Nemec, and I think has played a lot more on the PP.

So yeah, sneaky encouraging stats from Nemec this year.
If they move on from Walsh, then Nemec's AHL production could explode next season.

I see it more as playing with an attack mindset more then a hockey iq issue. Just can't get into the idea that Luke doesn't think the game well.

I also think, like Jack, Luke moves a ton without the puck defensively, which is a concern for a d-man, moreso then a center.

So I do agree there are concerns regarding Luke's transition to the NHL. Where as Nemec does play a more traditional game.

Will he be called up here for some games to end the season? Seems like a good oppurtunity to get some of our Dmen rest with Luke also joining the fold next week. Get him a taste of action, and prep incase he is needed in the playoffs.

I doubt it. Utica is in the midst of their own playoff race right now.

While Luke’s skating is elite and already very very good by NHL standards, I wouldn’t sleep on Nemec’s skating. He’s a very good and efficient skater. Nothing to worry about there, he could hold his own on that end.

For comparison's sake, David jiricek has 22 of his 36 points on the power play
Basically, only 38% of Jiricek’s points aren’t on the PP. 81% of Nemec’s points aren’t on the PP. Nemec’s point total would most likely be even closer than it already is to Jiricek’s if he had more consistent PP opportunities.

I feel like this gets casually brushed aside when discussing both guys.

If this season was a wash than 100% him and Luke would both be playing the last few games of the year. Thankfully it isn't one of those years.

Was talking about this earlier in the season when people were talking about Jiricek having a ton of points compared to Nemec in less games despite most of them coming on what was at the time the first unit of comfortably the best powerplay in the league. Not the best in the league anymore but still significantly better than Utica’s and Jiricek has been getting much more of a pp opportunity all season.

For comparison:
Nemec
24/29 points not on PP in 61 games
10 goals
129 shots

Jiricek
14/38 points not on the PP in 51 games
6 goals
94 shots

Points per game outside of the powerplay:
Nemec - 0.39
Jiricek - 0.27

Nemec being successful outside of the PP bodes very well. I see him as a good PP QB eventually as well.

Also, I like that he's the second best plus / minus on the team (which has a mediocre differential). It's not the end all be all, but it's nice
Yup, he's 1 behind Groleau, who has played 21 less games than him.

Deleted - wrong thread.

Edit: Does he join the Devils as a "Black Ace" or remain with Utica if they make the playoffs?
