I'm looking forward to seeing what Nemec can do at development camp. I'm hoping he will dispel my remaining doubts with a strong showing.

Does he immediately become our second best defense prospect after Luke Hughes?

Without question

I like him more than Luke but that’s just me

I don't know if what he said has been reported accurately, but assuming it is, I like the realistic outlook it reflects.

The worst attitude is when you have guys who slid a bit declaring that the teams who passed are idiots, and declaring themselves "steals". Being genuinely shocked at how high you went is better.
Of course he's shocked.

He knows Shane Wright should've gone #2 instead of him.

He better be humble as Fitz did him a huge solid here by picking him.

Now he better live up to expectations 'cause he will be compared to how Shane is doing from now on.

Yes and it's not close. Nemec and Luke are at a totally different levels. You hope to get a Sieg out of the rest of our crop. Maybe a Severson.

Luke and Nemec you expect top pairing all stars.

I said nothing about Makar in my post. Nico was a chalk-ish pick, which I don't count as a plus or a minus. If you want to give them a little credit for picking him over Patrick okay but it's not like he would have been off the tier, it was a two-person tier and they picked the one who by the time of the draft was thought to be a marginally better pick anyway. It was also a lucky lotto ball that they were even in position to draft #1 anyway but let's ignore that too - it's hard for me to give any real credit when you're drafting at #1 regardless.

#1 picks count too when it comes to drafting success. Just look at the Oilers. I'm not sure why you don't think it deserves any credit.

It's pretty nice to have two guys on the backend who are as close to NHL locks as you can get.

I have a hard time seeing Luke and Simon wash out at all.

You're literally getting what in theory should be the top prospect in the draft - you can only screw it up. I don't even claim the Devils screwed it up the way the second-guessers do because Makar wasn't on the first tier of prospects at that time. But I'm not giving them credit for winning a lottery either.

Eh I don't think he's THAT into mock drafts and stuff to even know who Shane Wright is. He probably only knows where he was supposed to be drafted - which was more top five.

I like this pick and it also means that the agent of Severson can’t hold Devils hostage when negotiating to re-sign. I’ll be OK with paying Severson $5m per season, but if he wants more, it’s nice to know we can trade him because Nemec is in the pipeline to step in a season.

I would still try to resign Severson, but I am playing hardball now.

I think Graves might get traded by the deadline and if you can get a good return I am not opposed to shipping Smith out. Not for peanuts though. Good forward needs to be coming back

Right, so you can only get it wrong, but getting it right is just a given.... Patrick was #1 for years until Nico came out of nowhere and Devils got it right. You can say whatever you want, that deserves credit.

with the draft over im still very happy with this pick. i preferred jiricek's physicality and man-on-man defense a bit more, but they were as close to equal as possible for me. sure, i would've gone wright too, but simon nemec can quite easily be argued as the 2nd best player in this draft even if i didn't personally hold the belief. we're not the first team to pass on wright, and we didn't even pick another forward over him. some scout quotes on wright were extremely critical of his effort, engagement, and overall heart (granted i still ranked him #1 anyway lol). having one pair with luke hughes and another with simon nemec will be an absolute nightmare for other teams to play against as theyll constantly be torching opposing defenses. good day for us

Not at all pleased with this pick. Feel like Fitz galaxy brained the pick here.

And, again, Fitz and his staff seems to manage his draft assets poorly. We've seen it multiple times now where he goes off the board and picks a player that he probably could've selected after trading back.

This kid better pan out. Lots of players after him that we'll be comparing him to.

How could he have traded back and gotten him realistically?
It’s unlikely he was getting past 4. Seattle liked him from the sounds of it. Doubt it would make sense for either of Seattle or Arizona.
