What was AV's reason for sending Buch to the fourth line? He lead the team in corsi in this game, and made no noticeable defensive errors. Funny enough, top 3 in corsi today were the KZB line, yet the moron breaks that line up after less than 2 games without a point and banishes Buchnevich to the fourth line. Typical AV. And of course, corsi's not the end all be all, but its not like he was getting battered all game. He was generating offense.
Maybe it's the way Buch is pouring in goals on the top line and the number 1 power play unit.

The roster is flawed for sure, replacing Stepan and Lindberg with Desharnais and? Is a tremendous downgrade. Signing Smith was dumb for that money and the fact that he should not be playing on his offside. Skjei looks like he is struggling out of the gate, Shattenkirk hasn't been good at 5v5, although I thought he played good tonight, Zibanejad is not a 1st line center at this stage IMO, Nash is a shell of himself, Vesey is useless, Buch has some good moments but he is still a bit weak on the puck when he has it, and IMO isn't around the puck enough, we don't have any guys who are puck hounds like a Hagelin, or Pouliot, who can disrupt breakouts and cause havoc, the team lacks playmakers outside of Zucc and Buch. Hayes and Miller have been huge dissapointments and Grabner is a one trick horse.

I think this roster has some major, major flaws but they played tonight the way the Rangers played against Dallas way back when right before Renney was canned. If they don't reel off a good streak here soon I could really see AV being let go.

You make some good points but AV IMO is gone well before you say "Rangers need to reel off a good streak". I truly believe he's gone if we don't beat the Penguins and at very very most till the Islander game right after seeing there is no way on gods green earth AV could possibly survive a 1-7 start with all the moves JG made during the off season and having brought in Ruff and the lack of passion the team has shown in the first 6 games of the season.

We'll see how it plays out but I don't think AV has more than a game or two max left unless we somehow beat the Pens and Isles back to back which seems extremely unlikely.

This is very noticeable. Other teams gain our zone very easily. There's not much resistance.

And the dump-ins, my god. I've watched this team dump the puck in to no result enough times to last me the rest of my life.

Funny thing is, AV is supposed to be the "muh fastbreak muh transition" coach, but he hates controlled entries. He dumps it in more than Torts did.

He doesn't know who he is. He's a finesse, run-and-gun offense coach who coaches more passively than any coach in the league. And we're left with a team that doesn't play offense or defense.

I went into 2017 thinking the Rangers were cooked and the Giants/Mets would save me. Then the Mets had their worst season in recent memory. Then the Giants had their own worst season in memory and I thought the Rangers would be kinda good. Now the Rangers are horse**** too.

Someone give me something!!!

There’s always the Knicks

This team is way too talented is funny stuff.

They’re too talented to be 1-5. They lost Step, G, Lindberg and Raanta, that turns them from a 100pt team to this? It really shouldn’t

This team is not fundamentally sound and hasn't been for some time. Team defense is atrocious, they are so careless with the puck and this has been a consistent problem throughout AV's tenure. I've hated man-to-man defense since it was first implemented in 2013 and it's astounding that this system is still being used.

Aside from the coaching, the players just aren't that good. Kreider will never be the player many thought he would be and should have been traded years ago, Hayes isn't improving, Miller is ok, Nash is done, McD has never regained 2013-14 form. The core of this team is mediocre at best. I know the Rangers have overcome slow starts in years past, but it really feels like this team is destined to miss the playoffs.

Kreider should have been traded? He was excellent last year and likely will be again this year when all is said and done. I know the team is terrible right now but that’s just silly.

We can debate the talent-level of this team all we want, but I think they deserve a chance with a real coach.

We are going to be 1-8 by the end of the next week. Pittsburgh on Tuesday, then the Islanders who always beat us, then the Predators.

Time to look into trading McDonagh and Zuccarello.

Literally could guess you'd respond to me with a snarky reply.

Change it up, way too predictable.
When a #1 wing and major player on the power play has zero goals it is fair to criticize him, no matter how much this upsets you, or should we wait until it's 10 games? At what point would you say something negative about him?

I still have high hopes for him, but he ain't cutting it right now.

No other snarky remarks in this thread, eh?

Stepan phased himself out with that horrible contract. It was about to be unmovable and I think JG did the right thing at the nick of time. He was about to become another albatross.

Agree with everything you've said. I think too much faith was placed in some core players taking the proverbial "next step" when it should be evident at this point that they've already become the players they're going to be. Hayes, Miller and Kreider are not going to get better than they are now, no matter how much ice time or extra PP time they're given.

Stepan has no goals and two assists this year, and somehow people think we would be scoring if we had him.

We would be scoring if we left our own zone every now and then.

Yeah, Stepan is not the answer, but we lack finishers on this team - been saying this for the last 3 years. Shattenkirk helped, but we need forwards.

Time to infuse the roster with some good young talent like the rest of the NHL.

>Trade your best D and best forward to tank for a higher pick.

>Hopefully use that pick to replace them.

It's an endless circle of garbage, that teams like the Panthers and the Islanders have been running through for years.

At this rate it would be a mistake to extend them both summer of 2019, so might as well sell as high as possible.

Yeah then maybe they’ll stop failing with 100pt seasons and playoff round wins. We can finally succeed by safely being out of the playoff race by the deadline and hoping A lottery ball changes the makeup of the team by rewarding us with the right group of teenagers

Hey, we just gotta keep playing the right way, ok? The looks are there. As long as we play a fast game, we'll be ok.

Stepan has also been a minus player.
