Stepan? Please. Love the guy, true Ranger, but he would be making not one iota of difference in the current situation. The guy can hardly keep up with the pace of today's game.

Respectfully, I could not disagree more with this statement. Stepan was key to this team last season. Stepan is a very good 2C

Edit: I feel really bad for Shattenkirk after reading his players tribune article, and fastforward to this debacle. This was his dream, and now the team he just joined is a giant struggling mess.

when was the last time under AV this team played 3 straight games of 60 minute hockey. it seems like forever.

even when they go on winning streaks they seem to be based completely on 1 or 2 good periods of hockey and 1 period of...lemme take a break.

sigh.

We play a fast enough game. We don't have enough natural finishers. We get enough opportunities every game. Last year we got unnaturally high shooting and scoring by committee. I have no stats backing this up, but we also had lots of seeing-eye goals. The league adapts. They either are playing a similar brand of game or have caught on to defend it. It is a high risk type of game and relies on flow, multiple lines rolling, timing on stretch and latetal passes, an elite goalie to cover up opponents' transitions when we get caught being too aggressive or when we muff our outlets coming out of our zone. Our type of game relies on defensemen pinching very aggressively to force opponents to give the puck back to us while our forwards are still facing their net. When the pinch doesnt work, the forwards are dead when they need to come back to help on defense. The game we play also needs people picking up the right man when there is a counterattack coming our way.

Stephan was utterly lost when the games counted last spring. He was two steps behind every shift. His soft shot was easily snuffed out.

We also have to think, maybe this team doesn't know how to develop top prospects when we do manage to get them. I mean, how does this team EVERY TIME we get a high pick, they 99.9 percent end up being busts.

Because this team is very conservative with their drafting. I think its because of what happened to Brendl, they don't want to take a flyer on someone with a lot of skill because they are hard to predict, they either become a star or they bust. They would rather draft safe players like JT Miller, Skjei, Kreider, all good players but were never going to be all stars. Thats why they took Lias at #7 who projects to be a 2C, when more high risk, high reward players were available.

This team has no f***ing push back. Two nights in a row where they were playing a good game only to give up a goal and fold and retreat for 20 mins. Considering the same exact thing happened the night before, AV should have called a timeout to wake their ass up before it spiraled out of control. They went 20+ minutes with 3 shots on goal at one point.

Generational this, Generational that, I don't care. Some of you guys are crazy, I would give up any 3 players in our organization to get an Auston Matthews... we don't have anyone close to his talent level and he is a difference maker

We Don't even have a Marner or Nylander, forget Matthews.

not really, devils arent terrible. and they havent been. bottom 10 team and they win the lottery. not like they were ever a bottom feeder. shows you dont have to tank with the new draft rules. as hard as it may be to grasp, im ok with the rangers at times. rangers are a good team.

Didn't Jersey finish dead last in the East, and 3rd worst overall?

This is looking like AV in Vancouver before he was jettisoned there. Deja vu all over again.

Right now I hate that we didn't keep Stepan and his NTC. This team is a huge mess because we traded probably the most essential cogpiece we had in offense, without really replacing him. Watching what's going on with this team is making me nauseous

The essential man is now the essential man of the only team in the NHL without a single win.

What this team needs more than anything right now is a sniper who can finish and some of you want Stepan back who is the exact opposite of that

I agree with the term generational talent. We need to draft 80 pts players, and hit with hall of famers in the next two years.

This team was built on 4 lines scoring last year. Not on a single line or a small group of players. They lost Lindberg and Stepan and I believe most people thought Grabner would revert back to his norm. The team added Desharnais.

This team, just by losing those two centers has taken a step back. The hope was that the defense could offset some of that loss but that hasn't been the case yet. DeAngelo should be playing every night. No question.

Are we all really this surprised by this team struggling a little? Last year when guys struggled they could hide due to the depth. That's not going to be possible this year.

I thought that this year the improved D would compensate for a flawed O, like last year when a flawed D was compensated by an improved D. But the D isn't anything special either.

I think the personnel is better without question. But the defensive zone system is unorthodox, not everyone can play it, and there's always an adjustment period for any new guy.

Bottom line boys , our goals are just awful. Nothing wrong with the speed of this team. Yes we could use some finishing by our top boys but the goalies are just not getting the job done these few games.

I think the NYR felt they could turn 7 & 21 into top-5 and when it didn’t happen the backup plan was enacted which is less than ideal... Hayes as a #2C was and is a pipe dream. I think Miller needs to stay at C and AV may have to change his defense system on the fly (which he won’t)

We need a new coach and hopefully Darryl S. is available - AV has lost it they seldom play for 60 min, and too many have a hard time for odd reasons including defense.

Girardi was the problem now he’s gone, Staal was the problem now he’s getting a reduced role, you fire AV and then what? It’s amazing people around here think you just wave a magic wand and the team will miraculously turn it around. Great we made the playoffs for a nice stretch but we didn’t f***ing win it all. The window has closed, it’s time to sell. Getting rid of a few guys and the coach won’t do a damn thing, this team isn’t good enough. They need to stock the cupboard and go young.

I analogize AV with Terry Collins. Both given rosters with holes in it. But both refuse to make the most of it.

I get what you're saying but the rosters Terry Collins got along with all the shit he had to deal with is so much more to deal with than what AV has. Once Collins was actually given a good roster, he made the playoffs in back to back years including a world series appearance and I can't really say if any of his decisions cost the team in the playoffs outside of game 5 with Harvey which a lot of fans were pushing for anyway. It would take multiple hands to count how many times AV cost this team in the playoffs with philosophy and usage.

Yessir. You look around the league and all the high end young talent are starting to take over. We have none.

Players like Hoffman, Forsberg, Kuznestov who are highly skilled are what's in in today's NHL. We are the most unskilled team in the league outside of the team were fortunate enough to draw in the first round last year.

And on top of that you need a franchise center, maybe even two, or at least a top 10 center behind him, and a 30 goal/60 point winger.

We're 0-5 in those departments.

I don’t think anyone disagrees that a team needs high end young talent, but they don’t just appear

Gorton is committed to keeping picks and building that way

The team drafted two top 6 centers last draft. This draft they’ll take a defenseman or a winger (or both if they have two picks)

These things don’t happen overnight

Should see what we can get in return for Kreider while he still has some value in other teams eyes. I don't think he's going to do more here. Maybe he will develop elsewhere, in a different setting with different people around him.
