You're a guy talking on a hockey forum. You are in no position to decide what should or what shouldn't offend people. Nobody knows the background and history of the people they insult or joke about. What may sound to you like a silly banter could as well be the thousandth laugh a the expense of somebody's lifelong struggle. I'm all for making jokes, but if someone would feel hurt by one of mine, he'd have every right to be and I sure hope he'd let me know.

Words are the most powerful of weapon.

Maybe more relevant in this situation, Edwards triggered a bunch of uninvited negative attention on Maroon. It's one thing not to care what Edwards said, it's another to have to deal with days, weeks, now months of fallout from the media and public. It would seem that he has a wife and kid, plus other family, who also have to deal with seeing their loved one being dragged through all of this.

It's not too crazy to imagine someone going through all of that and being less than thrilled to have a public face-to-face with the guy who did it to him.

When it comes to the fat shaming, some of you need to think a little more. Kids watch the games. Don’t you think it’s kind of setting a bad example to fat shame an athlete on live television? You don’t think kids are going to school the next day thinking it’s ok to fat shame a classmate?

I will never ever shit on a man that comes to me 1 on 1 to talk about a difference. I would actually paint Maroon badly here for not appreciating that. Unless Jack just shitted on him more, but the reporter, the setting suggests it was indeed an apology.
Yes this whole thing paints Maroon as the one in the wrong.. lol. Hopefully jack can just keep it simple and do his job.

Pat Maroon fights frequently (well attempts to) - They'll probably go to school the next day and try to fight someone by that logic.

That’s not what he was getting at.

What he was saying was that it was obligatory for Edwards to apologize because he was in the wrong. And that apology is not contingent on, or requiring of, an acceptance. You cannot apologize only because you expect to be forgiven. You make apology, do the best you can to be better, and let whether someone accepts or not be up to them.

Maroon can do what he wants. Just because Edwards apologized he does not HAVE to accept. Hopefully he does/did, but that is his right.

We all screw up in life. Emphasis on all. Be nice if more of us accepted our shortcomings and genuinely apologized when we screw up.

I don’t know. I hope you have some evidence of that makes you feel comfortable saying that. If not, shame on you. Truly.

I understood it perfectly fine.

So you’re saying kids aren’t influenced by the things they see and hear? That’s what you’re going with? Decades of studies say otherwise.

Just watched the clip of Maroon on Spittin Chiclets.

Whitney and Biz doing the same thing to Jack. Making fun of him, starting rumors about him smoking all the weed, etc. What a joke. It's ok for them to harp on a guy? Biz is on a national broadcast...

Liked Maroons response to it though, he didn't bite on any of it.

I don't think Edwards was obliged to do anything of the sort, actually.

He CHOSE to apologize, given the vitriol his comment brought on him, and again he chose to do it quietly and without fanfare.

I doubt Maroon expected to see him today, in front of his locker, but it looks like they've both moved on and put it behind them. :dunno:

Yes, they will. That's exactly right. And that's why we came to the point where fights rarely ever happen as opposed to there being 3 per game.

Ahh yes. The good ole " will someone think of the children " argument.

I agree. I do think it was the right thing to do. “Obliged” was too strong a word to use.

I do get that Jack Edwards goes over the top. Bruins fans sometimes find him over the top.

But there is nothing out there to suggest he’s a bad guy. He’s overly enthusiastic at times and certainly a bit of a nerd. Something he not so rarely pokes fun at himself for.

You f*** up, you apologize. Pretty simple way to life life actually.

I agree with you on all fronts.

Some people on here want to make him out to be some kind of a bad guy. He’s not.

Something is up with Jack. Lots of Bruins fans worry about him because he is stumbling with speech issues badly this season.

Of course at least one fool on here calls him a “drunk”. Of course that same person wouldn’t have the courage to ask to go in somewhere like the Bolts room and apologize in person. Maybe I’m wrong, but I highly doubt it. Funny. That fool could learn something from Jack…. IF…… he’s teachable.

it's better for kids to see, hear, and experience bad things when they are young.
that prepares them for handling bad stuff when they get older.

it's the single reason why so many young adults today are having problems dealing with life.

the more you shelter youth from real life, they more the can't handle early adulthood.

I don’t think this is borne out by population studies. PTSD, poverty, hunger, serious illness all seem to be correlated with negative outcomes.

He may not be a bad guy, but he's the worst and most rude announcer I have ever seen in sports.
