OT: New Goal Song Talk Part 3

So now they also don't play Song 2 after a win??? What is the reasoning behind that? Song 2 has been the victory song for the past 15+ years....what the hell.

I actually didn't notice either since I wasn't at the Ranger game...what, pray tell is so PR-radioactive about 'woo-hoo!'? Honest to god it's like they're going to change every little thing they can just for the sake of making it their team.

It is and it's not at the same time. They own it but we are the reason the team is here. Without it they wouldn't be here.

I can't imagine the Yankees removing "New York, New York." Just don't get it.

The Whip played at a normal sound = easy to incorporate YOU SUCK into.
The Whip played at the obnoxious sound level tonight = impossible.

All according to management's plan. I'd be happy I guess with the Whip. I'd MUCH rather prefer SNA though. Anything but Righteous Lulz and Bon Jovi.

I was deflated by that weak goal song tonight. I honestly forgot for a quick sec that it would not be RR2 after Henriques goal.

And yeah, why no Woo-hoo right after we win games before Glory Days?

I value our traditions as a long time fan.

The goal song thing I can "understand". I think the reasoning is weak as can be but I "understand" it. Getting rid of Blur is just an abuse of power.

There's always gotta be something...

I know that you're fine rolling over and accepting all these changes, but that doesn't mean we all have to. Others value the the traditions that we've come to expect at the Rock.

Is it the end of the world that it's gone? No. It's not. But why even bother changing it? What's the logic? Teams around the league just don't go changing something they've used for 15 years.

Because it doesn't make nearly the impact you think it does? The song that plays at the end of the game... how much are people doing anything about it? How many people hear the horn go off and make right for the exits? Exactly. If you want to claim the significance and hell, even throw around the word "tradition" for a goal song, go nuts. To make a big deal over what song is playing when 85% of the building is focused on getting up the stairs faster... well then I'm glad your priorities are so well thought out.

When did I ever say it was significant? I didn't. I even said "it's not the end of the world." I don't think you grasp the concept of "traditions" very well. I'm a diehard Yankees fan and if they every stopped playing "New York, New York" at the end of games I would certainly ask questions. And that's all we're doing. No one is starting a petition or rioting outside of the Rock.

You get so caught up in what people care about that I seriously wonder if that's the only thing you care about - making sure others don't care about anything. Or are we only allowed to care about what you think is significant?

No idea where you came up with that. All 3 points are totally wrong.

Are you suggesting that every time the Reg Wings lose, there is a bad atmosphere? Last I checked, that place is rocking when the team is up or down 5.

Winning and atmosphere aren't necessarily linked. A winning team certainly turns the atmosphere up a level, but you can win and still have a crap atmosphere. Look at the Coyotes the year they went to the WCF. You can also lose and have a blast at games.

The Devils atmosphere after the 1st goal in the home opener turned to garbage. People were so irritated with the song choice that the rest of the experience suffered. You can call it childish, immature, whatever. I was at that game and the energy in that building totally dropped after the 1st goal.

First please, please dont EVER confuse our fan base with the Red Wings one.We are not a pimple on the ass of the red wings base. By saying that you make my point. The Joe would rock if they played Don Ho after they scored.
What I am saying is that if a fricken goal song makes that much difference in the overall atmosphere of the game then we are the sorriest bunch of fans in the NHL and I respect your opinion but I disagree with it vehemently. My first game was the 3rd home game ever in 1982, they played RR2 then. The atmosphere sucked. Lived thru many a season, including the first one in the Pru where ticket prices were obscene, they played RR2. The atmosphere sucked. I stand by my opinion that a goal song as long as it doesnt totally bite(Like the Bon Jovi one) has little to do with the over all experience of the game. I will admit it may be a generational thing but to me what makes a good atmosphere is good hockey and a full building.

You seem a little upset about something here? I don't see where I'm connected to your frustration here...

I agree with you. In my opinion, all we need is a good song, a great team, and decent attendance. I don't think it's RRP2 itself. It's just the lack of a good song right now.

But I don't think it's the worst thing in the world to have our fans, the more casual ones and even the hardcore ones, care about something. Care about traditions. Care about the goal song, Song 2, and notice chants when they're not around anymore. It means our fan base is starting to care. It's a far cry from 1982 I imagine, right? It's not a bad thing.

I could be wrong on this but Blur didnt start after wins until they moved here, In the CAA it was always Glory Days

I don't know how much room there is for logical observations in this discussion. But I want to say I thought the same thing as you on that one.

No i'm not upset . I just think it's a poor luck to criticize people for questioning why the song that's played for 15 years after a win was changed. Do the owners recognize the tradition? Maybe they have no idea. Who knows.

You just don't care period. And that's your right. For someone who doesn't care though, you sure do spend a ton of time in this thread telling people that it's ridiculous that they care so much (which gives off the appearance that you care a hell of a lot).

I'm here in this thread all the time. Because I do care about the goal song and the traditions because I think those things help build and grow a fanbase.

But no, not upset. Didn't mean to give you that impression. All is well.

Glory Days wouldn't be a bad victory song to tell you the truth. I feel victory songs are important because when they play elsewhere, you think of the team. To tell you the truth when I hear Glory Days, I think of the Devils because back in our 2000 playoff run I remember it playing a lot after our series wins. When I hear Song 2, I don't think of the Devils because I also hear it everywhere.

Bruce Springsteen, from NJ, it works for me. I hear the song "Dirty Water" and think of Boston sports right away.

I don't like how management didn't let the fans know beforehand. It's sad. If the people like Song 2, keep it. I know I don't mind the switch but we should go with the majority.

I'm getting the feeling they want the old CAA atmosphere back. I personally associate that atmosphere as dated with a bunch of uptight fans. The tailgates were always the best part and I rather see the team play like the old CAA days rather then bring the arena atmosphere to the Rock.

If they really want to revive CAA then they should just bring back the old version of RRP2. Too bad about that forbidden four letter word that while good enough for shows on Cartoon Network and Nick is TOO OBSCENE FOR THE PRUDENTIAL CENTER AND THE NEW JERSEY DEVIL FANBASE!

Think of the children! Their poor ears! Sure kids today have heard much worse then sucks in 2013 but won't somebody PLEASE think of the children!

Do I care? Or do I not care? I can't tell which one you're telling me to feel. If I'm not allowed to disagree with anything you say, it would be very helpful if you could tell me what I am supposed to be feeling right now so I can best contribute to your conversation.

I'm not a fan of the You Suck...but I do agree with what you posted. On a lighter note took my 10YO daughter tonight and she said Daddy we cant say You Suck anymore and I said No..they are trying to get rid of it,,,she thought and said OK..after they scored the second goal the You suck was a bit louder and she goes,,OHH they found a loophole..yea!

Blur was played at CAA in 2003. They used to play the mission impossible theme on the PK as well.

(These are my memories as a kid. Which is why I think it's important to keep some traditions in tact so my kids and your kids and grow attached to the team and the experience even when the team is awful.)

Maybe because no one ever said anything about it before? It's not a point that ever got much reaction out of people (at least, not on account of the song. Only on account of the events that transpired before the song kicks in). Can't expect anyone calling any shots to just know what things people do or don't care about and what their opinion on the matter is.

Just trying to figure out why you're even posting in this thread. If the people who care are ridiculous for caring about insignificant parts of the experience like goal songs and victory songs, say it once and move on. Talk about what you think is important. Plenty of active threads is all I'm saying.

I thought it was a goal song talk thread? Am I misreading where it says 'hate everything that isn't what it always was talk' for the thread title? Funny. Your view can be posted for a bunch of threads, but anything otherwise can't... I'm learning how this show works, albeit ever so slowly. Please let me know anything else that I should be aware of.

You're right it's not the end of the world, but it is 100% a tradition. How is it not? Would people be mad if they changed the design of the jerseys? Of course they would, because we have worn the same jerseys for the past 20 years.

Its the same with songs too. Same with Yankees playing "New York New York" or Red Sox playing "Sweet Caroline". When I go to the Devils game I like hearing the traditional songs (After a win= Song 2 - Glory Days - Beautiful Day). **** I even want to hear "Bittersweet Symphony" after a loss, because they have always played that. There's just no reason to change is all I'm saying. It is what it is though.

For those who are questioning, since AT LEAST 2000, it has been Song 2, followed by Glory Days after a win. I think they starting playing Beautiful Day after Glory Days when they moved to the Rock.
