There is nothing "special" about what Brodie was able to accomplish last year relative to his peers on the team

Meanwhile you continue to complain about Klingberg but do not factor in "context" as to how bad Ducks were as a rebuilding team where forwards don't backcheck at all.

Trading Brodie doesnt dent Leafs much

p.s. i don't believe or trust anything that has "expected" next to it. if that is your foundation for your opinion then we have nothing to discuss. because we have two different ways on how to look at data and infer information

I guess it's a matter defining "not good" 5m for maybe only 15-20 points with Brodie can be viewed similarly.

It actually shows why they went for a pure offensive player in Klingberg.

If points is all you want, lets bring back Barrie or Gustaffsson..........

I can't stop thinking about trading Murray for Garland. It seems overkill to sign Domi and make that trade... but it would really be interesting with Nylanders future here in question. Garland is a right handed RW and Vancouver still on really has Demko as a NHL capable goaltender.

He's got 3 years of term left. If he doesn't work out here you're left with a worse situation than Murray

I told you expected BS stats don't work with me. WAR is another garbage stat.

Do you even know how "WAR" is calculated mathematically or you just like to post tweets?

That's the risk but it's one way to get rid of Murray and get a player with some form of upside to bounce back. He's still a 20g-50p level winger at the minimum.

Now trade nylander for pesce + 2nd rounder
Trade 2nd rounder and murray for future consideration
Sign Sammy 3 years x $3.5 million
Sign Domi 2 x $3.5 million
Sign Tatar 1 year x $2 million

Bertuzzi. Matthews. Marner
Knies. Tavares. Tatar
Robertson. Domi. Jarnkrok
Holmberg Kampf. Lafferty/Reaves

Rielly. Pesce
Brodie. Klingberg
Mccabe. Lilly
Gio

Sammy

Real stats like g% had Gio as one of the top D.

Also, the stats you posted prove when Brodie in on the ice, the team is doing really well.

Murray will probably get traded to a team who needs a short term place holder in goal. The Leafs will then turn around and sign Samsonov to a lower AAV with more years.

Before the Murray scenario, we are likely to see the Nylander move first.

I don't necessarily trust WAR because Hedman and Rielly were far from the worst in that regard last year, but that is pretty accurate for Klingberg.

TDA was a analytic darling as well, that's why Carolina took him.

Then he goes to a bad team and look what happens...

Not sure there's a team out there needs a Murray. It's why he's still here.
I'd rather retain if need be on Murray and just dump him this year, even if it costs a B/C prospect

I think it would have happened by now if it's all it took.

Yeah I do think a lot of the Klingberg being the "worst defensive defensemen" in hockey analytics are based on him getting absolutely shelled on one of the worst teams in the entire league last year. He will hopefully be able to be deployed a lot more to his strengths on a better team. Keep him away from heavy defensive zone starts and feed him PP time.

Chicago may still want a goalie, and I suspect the Leafs don't want to pay to dump Murray. Probably realizes that Murray has value to a team at the TDL.

Unless a team gets one of the big fish, Murray is by far the best goalie left on the market. UFA has nothing (Jones and Stalock are not NHL caliber)

Out of all the guys we let go the Schenn departure stings the most. This is coming from a guy who thought Schenn was massively overrated in his first go around here. But he's since developed into a dependable stay at home guy, and looked like the perfect partner for Rielly during the playoffs.

I still wonder about Seattle being very interested in Nylander if he's made available. They have the assets, the cap space and probably a need to really upgrade.

They could offer a huge offer that would really make the Leafs think twice I think. And he'd be in the West.
