I mean 4 x 2.5 for a 4c and now this for an enforcer in 2023 is a fairly ugly start.

But ngl a part of me is going to love Reaves scare the piss out of the gudas’ and tkachuks of the world if they wanna f around and find out

Calling Kampf a 4c is disingenuous. He is our #1 defensive forward regardless of where you write his name on the lineup card. As I posted in another thread, Kampf took 351 faceoffs on the Pk last year… and the 2nd most was Jarnkrok with 26.

Reaves signing will be a 35+ contract. This type of contract is not buriable. If we were to send him to the AHL, only 100K cap relief is given. So if he signs for 1.3M per and send him down, we will have him on the cap for 1.2M.

This is terrible. I still dont understand why we need a 36 year old enforcer. This will be a stupid signing.

What is a 35-plus contract?

A contract is designated a 35+ contract if the players age on the first year of the contract is 35 or older (as of June 30 prior to the year of the effective contract).

35+ contracts that are two years in length or longer and:
1. Have a signing bonus in the 2nd or later year, OR
2. Are front-loaded
Will not benefit from a reduced cap hit regardless of the players location of play, termination, retired status, or a buyout. This rule was introduced by the NHL to prevent teams from backloading contracts past when the player was expected to retire. An exception to this rule is that a team will receive a $100,000 cap hit reduction if the player is on the 2nd or later year of the contract and assigned to the minors

Pretty sure 35+ contracts can still be buried if structured properly

Just off the players not qualified,

Jost, McLeod, White, Puljujarvi, Gurianov, Fischer, Bastian, Sprong, Kostin, Comtois, Bear, and Foote.

Players bought out,

Duchene, Wheeler and Yamamoto.

UFA’s,

Bertuzzi, Brown, Wood, Klingberg, Dumba, Soucy, and Mayfield.

There’s definitely decent options in that list.

McLoed could be a good bottom-6 center.

Wood, Brown, Comtois and Fischer could be good middle-6 wingers. Bastian would be fine on the 4th line.

Duchene and Bertuzzi would be good top-6 wingers.

Dumbs would be good if cheap. Schenn and Graves would be the two defenders I would target.

I don't mind the Reaves signing, as long as Treliving can clear out more in cap space. If he can't then try fitting in Acciari around $1.5M and the Reaves signing at $1.3M. We'll only have around $8.7M in cap space. Try fitting in the roster with good player, if you can't than the Reaves signing is a bad one.

This only applies if he has SBs in his 2nd or 3rd year or if the contract is front loaded. I'm almost 100% sure Reaves isn't getting that.

Depending on the terms of the deal none of the contract could be buried because of his age. They made some changes to the 35+ deals so I don’t know all the details.
Hopefully Pridham works his magic on this one but we have to wait for all the details to come out.

Well that stinks.

I hope you're wrong. Lol

At the trade deadline we always trade away good draft capital and then the players walk. Was there any rental we were able to retain?? Incredible mis-use of resources.
Now if we let Bunting or ROR or Schenn walk Duchesne, Mayfield and Comtoise aren't bad replacements. There are others that can help too at the right price.

Not in love with this reported Reaves contract but I do believe he will be absolutely adored here and hopefully give this team some life that it's been lacking.

Really hoping they can round out the forwards with Duchene, Brown, Fischer and Acciari/Mcleod.

Brown - Matthews - Marner
Tavares - Duchene - Nylander
Fischer - Kampf - Jarnkrok
Reaves - Acciari/McLeod - Lafferty

You can also swap Fischer and Brown. Fischer has a lot of Bunting in him but seems to be more inclined to get physical.

Looking at that lineup, Jarnkrok does really feel awkward in there. I wonder if he can be shipped out for some mid round picks and fill that spot with someone that plays with a little more functional size. Someone like Hathaway maybe. Or Comtois?

Two things

He hasn't signed yet. We don't know actual dollars.

If it is 1.3, that leaves 175k that can't be buried this year, which will likely get lower in coming seasons.

That's not nearly enough for me to lose sleep over.
The minimum salary goes up to $775K this year, so the bury-able amount is now $1.15M, so all but 150K can buried. The minimum salary is set at $775K through the 25-26 season, so, if it’s a three year deal, these would be the numbers for the whole deal.

I like the forward group, the big question is what's our d corp going to look like with the limited cap space we have.
