The addition of Reaves should be viewed as Leafs core 4 + 1 now up front, as he is intended to provide the backbone to a group that has no push back resistance ability physically as well as consume 1/2 the teams cap.

If you're determined to bring back the Core 4, then this is the kind of things that should be expected as a necessary evil even if its not ideal to think a 4th liner with limited impact outside of hitting and intimidating the opposition with limited TOI/g. .

We saw in the Florida series and near sweep of a core 4 producing a mere 3 goals in 5 games and only 1 goal by 3 X $11 mil players. Reaves is said to be a strong lockerroom presence and someone that will help offset the impact of a Matt Tkachuk of the opposition keeping him occupied and off his game.

If some of the buyout have reasonable asks, you could get some offense on the 3rd. line.

Yeah, especially on a show me what you can do deal
Most of them made their money. If they really want to compete in a hockey enviornment, we should be getting some good ones

I am not betting on it. I have a feeling we are going to resign Kerfoot and be like "we got our own FA". The answer is in the room type of speech

Hoping to get a surprised sign, like Duchene

Not to mention that cheap shot that Bennett threw on Knies. I still can't believe there was no answer to that.
Schenn is a D, he can't be gone for 10 mins. Especially he was our best defensive D

Reaves always been a no nonsense type of guy. He doesn't care about your feelings
But if you want that, to be honest just get John Cena on Zoom or something

I have no problem with Reaves, I have a problem with potential roaster spot guranteed to him. Few of our Marlies players needs fair opportunities

Yikes this is gonna be a disaster off-season isn’t it.
Absolutely sucks. He was always a fan favorite and paid his dues
That 500-700 K Trev paid extra for Kampf better pay off.

WHen people say it's only 500K more. well that only 500k more could have gotten you Luke. A heck of a guy, a captain without being a captain

So far, no Acciari, no Schenn

They can have Holl while they are at it. Kerfoot screams an Oiler

Oilers have zero cap space. They couldn't even afford Kotsin at ~2M. Bouchard will take the majority of their remaining 7M of cap space.

They ain't signing anyone unless they are very very cheap.

That's what happens when you keep signing bad contracts.

That three year deal for Reaves is horrific, my God. I know we’re all sour on Dubas but it’s hilarious that as soon as he leaves the Leafs go and do something immediately stupid.

It's almost like a Marleau deal. Really need him for 2 years, 3rd year is a retirement gift
I have a feeling you'll seem on waiver at some point or Marlies by next year

Same role Clifford plays now for them.

Ryan O’Reilly And Luke Schenn Expected To Test The Market

The Maple Leafs were hoping to keep a pair of their pending unrestricted free agents in the fold but it may not play out that way. Pierre LeBrun of TSN and The Athletic reports that center Ryan O’Reilly will test the market today while Chris Johnston of NorthStar Bets and TSN adds that defenseman Luke Schenn will do the same.

O’Reilly was one of Toronto’s key trade deadline acquisitions, coming over in a trade from St. Louis. The 32-year-old fit in well with his hometown team, picking up 11 points in 13 games down the stretch while winning 62% of his faceoffs. O’Reilly then put up nine points in 11 playoff contests, cementing himself as one of the top middlemen on the open market.

LeBrun notes that the Maple Leafs had interest right to the end so it’s possible that the veteran circles back depending on how his market plays out today. That said, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports that Detroit, Montreal, Nashville, and Vancouver are all linked to O’Reilly as well so there could be enough interest to push his price tag out of Toronto’s price range.

As for Schenn, Johnston reports that again, there was mutual interest in getting something done but the level of interest in the 33-year-old has yielded an offer from another team that’s too strong for the Maple Leafs to match. Schenn matched his career high in points with 22 last season and chipped in with a career-high 318 hits. After playing for the last four seasons on contracts worth less than $1MM, that seems sure to change today.

I never thought Leafs would be a team O'Reilly would sign with. Isn't his family fully involved in the St. Louis area?

1.3M for 3 years with a 36 year old Reaves and it doesn’t seem like we’re getting Schenn, Acciari or ROR back.

It’s early days but man I’m not enjoying things as a fan

Shanahan has overstayed but we’re at least 1-2 years from being done with that clown

Really wanted Acciari back and Schenn
To me they should have been priority of Kampf

I get it, Kampf is a Center. But Acciari brought so much more
Was the leading hitter in playoffs for the games he played
