Apparently since he is 35+, even if he is sent down his cap hit fully counts against the team

I like that we are looking into adding toughness, but we need some tough guys who can score as well (at least 10-15 goals) due to a lack of scoring in our bottom 6. The Simmonds/Kyle Clifford experiments were clear indications that we need toughness all throughout the lineup, and not by players who are on the verge of retirement that are going to play like 5 minutes a night or not play at all.

Is that true? I thought it was if a player signs a 35+ contract and retires, the cap it doesn't go away. Is the rule for the minors too?
