Reaves began last season with the Rangers before being traded to Minnesota. Skating in 73 games between the two teams, Reaves registered 15 points and 43 penalty minutes. The 6'2, 220 pound winger is reportedly going to sign a multi-year deal with the Leafs on Saturday.,

Reaves has been at or near the top of the league in hits the last few seasons and is not only one of the toughest guys in the league, but also one of the best locker room guys. If the Leafs are also able to re-sign Noel Acciari, the fourth line will be one of the most physical in the league.

Reaves, Acciari, Schenn.

I'm really disappointed Schenn has not been resigned yet. Hopefully it happens but I can see him going back home to Vancouver.

Unless the Reaves contract is above $1.5M, I don't think there's too much to complain about.

They're not bringing him in to be a 3rd liner. Also, every tough guy they've got has been a bit of a bitch, TBH. Outside of Schenn.

• With Ryan Reaves turning down Minnesota, all eyes are on Toronto. They are believed to be ready to pitch Bertuzzi (a very hot commodity) and at least one defenceman, although all of this will take some gymnastics. Auston Matthews won’t be signed by July 1, but every expectation is he will by the start of the season. The number is going to look big when it’s signed, but will shrink as the cap grows. William Nylander won’t be done Saturday either, but everyone is trying to remain calm and not overreact.

• If not Toronto, Ryan O’Reilly’s been linked to Detroit, Montreal, Nashville and Vancouver. There’s probably more. However, some sources warned not to discount his desire for St. Louis until he actually signs somewhere else.

Friedman also says the Leafs will pitch to a D. Says that ROR has interest from Toronto, Nashville, Montreal and a few other teams.

Hopefully some random team doesn't overpay ROR like Chicago did with Perry. If he comes in at a reasonable number would be a dream to have him back.

What about Morgan Geekie, should that guy be a target to split bottom six center duties with Kampf?

Chicago is the perfect trade destination for Willy Nylander to ride shotgun for Connor Bedard. They're a team that would be willing to meet his contact demands and needing to spend on salary.

I suggest the main piece coming to Toronto is big 6'4" 210 Right hand Dman Seth Jones who is locked in at $9.5 mil long term and Son of former Toronto Raptor Popeye Jones with Chicago picking up about $2.5 retention. Offsetting Nylander's current cost.

Then Leafs resign ROR to play in the top 6.

Step 1 of building that Redwood forest on D and adding a top 4 Dman that can play big minutes and most important moving Willy similar cap usage from forward to defense to spread it out.

Thats fine if the number isn't huge.
Aside from a great first round for BOS, what am I missing with this guy? He’s not big or heavy, hits as much as Nylander, and is a 60pt guy. Why are so many ppl into him? Seems there’s a lot of suitors so he’ll be getting big money for a career high .9 ppg achieved once.

A fair amount of people seem to think he’s a power forward or tough but I don’t see it…
