It does say that only deals that have a signing bonus in year 2 or are front loaded apply to prevent teams from backloading these deals. Hopefully Pridham can step in and save Treliving from making this even more stupid than it needs to be

What about Yamamoto?

Put him on the 3rd line RW and use Jarnkrok, Knies and Robertson on the LW

Get a good 3rd line center like ROR or Duchene and get some insurance like Brown I think we would be pretty solid up front
Are you trying to build a lottery team. That's what I get when this wing setup follows trading nylander ideas

How much looser can this core possibly get? lol
And, who will be the core if they ever become a contender? Make no mistake, Revo is well past his prime and can’t play for a contender, but the Leafs are expected to have a couple of more down years, so why not add a few entertainers. He’ll long gone if they ever turn the corner.

I wonder if Brad is aware of this rule, because candidly I was quite keen on this signing initially but if that's how it works he's just burning cap-space here, particularly in year 2 of this deal.

If he's this desperate, just give Simmonds 2 years and be the 14th forward. It's bad either way but at least he knows the team. Plus Keefe won't overplay Simmonds while Reaves I think Keefe might.

I don't know what we can do until Nylander gets sorted out

That's 7M in cap space and the return you would get for him

That's a massive difference in how you would navigate free agency

Also we can't own rental rental him, we just can't

I think what'll happen is management will continue to prioritize an extension and if they have to trade him in an few weeks/couple months they'll just frame any deal within the confines of that 7 mil cap in/out

Nothing in the media suggests they're trying to rush through things

Keep in mind you can overspend the Salary hard cap of $83,500,000 by 10% in the off-season That means $8.35 mil and with Willy making $7 mil that doesn't prevent the Leafs from finding his replacement or another high-end roster player first and then deal him afterwards if contract talks go south. .
