No one is saying there aren't.

But say Sam Pollock was reincarnated and he didn't speak french. Our current hiring process would ensure we wouldn't consider him. Is that the way to run a successful organization?
It comes back to the argument that at somewhat equal competences the bilingual GM will get hired first, but no one ever confirmed or indicated that english-only GMs would not be considered. I don't think anyone can comment on the hiring process of a GM aside from Molson himself at the moment. Take Bergevin for instance, there were plenty of better bilingual candidates that could have been chosen, but they weren't. Nothing to do with language, it has everything to do with the fact that Molson is a corporate whore.

The coach is a different story since there was several public confirmations that only bilingual coaches would be considered.

It's a real situation facing the Habs and one that absolutely infuriates me. There are numerous talented people that could be a candidate for the job if Molson decides to make a change at GM. Why would the franchise show such disrespect to their fans & sponsors and not hire the best person available for the job, regardless of background, gender, etc...

Having or wanting to hire only those people with a French speaking background immediately sets the franchise back and alienates the vast majority of candidates. All that matters are wins, not making sure media gets someone that can answer their question in a certain language.

What do you folks think?

How about now?

The fact that McGuire and Roy are likely to be frontrunners for MB's replacement is terrifiyng.

I'd honestly be ready to give McGuire a shot. The guy has been saying our problems for so many years, at least he would come in with a plan and address our problems down the road.
Bergevin is just an arrogant f***
Roy I would not trust
It's Brisebois for me and I'd have McGuire before Roy

Just give anyone a shot who has a proven track record of evaluating talent. I don't care about how he dresses, how well he communicates with the media, etc., etc...

Just bring someone in who wants a team with speed and skill and knows how to find those players before they're too expensive to trade for.

Steve Yzerman was interested in the GM job years ago, but the Habs wouldn't even give him an interview. He's doing fine in Tampa, thanks anyways

You can always hire "The Ghost" again or Bob Gainey. Habs like bringing back people they fired. Maybe Carbonneau is on deck again..LOL

Give Pierre Mcguire a shot at it, much better choice then clueless MB.. Believe me.

Please, not the Pierre bandwagon again.

I agree MB's tenure has run its course. It is only a matter of time. But there's two things that seem more or less clear to me in the last 15 years (which encompasses a somewhat new management paradigm).

1) There's a hell of a lot of luck involved
2) A "successful" front office almost always follows a terrible one, not because they are awesome, but because the terrible one created the opportunities to draft the best players. That is the case with Oilers and Leafs, and it would be interesting to see who was in charge (haven't done the analysis) prior to the other successful front offices.

I believe that success in the NHL is highly structural and greatly dependent on luck. Management moves around a few pieces on a highly predetermined chess board, which is why a great GM during one tenure is terrible during another.

So i'm in favour of change, because change is sometimes necessary/good, but not because I think the next GM will bring in a magic formula. They will likely build on whatever failures of this front office, and that will be the main cause of their success.

i used to be against Mcguire, then for the last 3 years, he read the mistakes and the success of this team extreemly well.
He is the opposite of the arrogant MB. give the man a chance

The only reason to give McGuire a shot would be to see him fail and finally shut up. It’s real easy for a broadcaster to tell them everything that’s wrong. Not easy to fix when he’s in the hot seat though

Neither is the man in the position right now, so apparently that's not a criteria.
He is more than McGuire and he is still failing . Montreal Canadiens need an experienced general manager .

Since he needs to be french , Hopefully we have a President appointed and they do the interviews . I dont know much about available Candidates but Julien Brisebois would have to be a top choice , and he is french .

Well McGuire has been getting a lot of hate for a lot of years for dissing the Price pick at 5 overall.

It turns out he was spot on: you don't use a number 5 overall pick to draft a goalie, especially when you have a glaring need at center. And, if you do pick the goalie at #5, you better trade him for a center. But Bergevin strolls out and says Price isn't going anywhere and gives him a huge long term contract... At this point its clear, we should have hired McGuire over Bergevin when they were finalists.

What experience does Brisebois have? Are there any other candidates regardless of language ?
