Teams which are not competitive traditionally tend to give their young players important minutes and watch them grow ala the Edmonton Oilers.

But yes, it is disrespectful to trash on the players taking his spot given all the success they've delivered to Toronto.

All that's done for the Oilers so far is given Hall and RNH early injuries, ensuring they won't be playing past 30.

Mr. Cherry will have a riot if this is actually the case. The kid is ready for the bigs.

Ironically, Mac wasn't ever given a chance to on his draft team. Looks like Kadri may go down the same path.

Guys like Grabs, Bozak and Mac were given a chance here because there was no one else to turn to, and they developed into useful-ish players of varying degrees. Kadri could use the same benefit of the doubt and grow into the job and reward us more than those three ever could with his combination of skill and gritty demeanor.

There is a great starting point for a conversation the the mantra of sooo many Kadri supporters.

That's a sign of confidence, something you probably lack. It's also a sign of confidence in stating an opinion. If you truly believe something after looking at both sides of the coin, you shouldn't care if anyone thinks otherwise.

With your mindset, you my friend are going to live a very frustrating life dwindeling between fitting in and agreeing with the most recent observations.

what part do people not understand here? it's called asset management. Even if Kadri outplays Mac what do you do with Mac? you have to showcase the player and wait until you can maximize their return (ie. trade deadline). Once Mac is traded Kadri can step in.

Kadri is an RFA after this season. Even if he plays out the year with the marlies and refuses to re-sign, he's STILL AN ASSET and can be traded for a decent return. Mac is a UFA. His value drops to zero after the season

That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Asset management is also not wasting time with an inferior player when a younger guy can do his job better right now and later. If Kadri had it in him to develop into the 2nd or 3rd best forward on this team, why wait? This is like Barry Melrose proclaiming Steven Stamkos is not an NHL player and never allowing him to do anything at the NHL level. Lucky for Tampa they fired Melrose and Stamkos delivers 2 Rocket Richards in 3 years. Let's just see what we have in Kadri and not be so penny wise and pound foolish with worrying about upping the trade value of the other slugs taking his spot.

What a ridiculous ad hominem :shakehead

Wake up and think. What he said goes completely against what they've been saying from the start. That my friend, is unbelievable.

You wake up and think yourself. You have a problem with an approach most teams will taking. What he is saying is obvious.

You have a team with no chance at being a contender at this point.
You have numerous NHL players signed to contracts.
You have a new coach.
You need to see how said players will fit the bill.
You have a few players left with minor league options.
Who should said coach send down?

You need to relax. He will be up before halfway through the season. They will see what they have by then and perhaps his play will benefit by the learning the team has done in that process. If they go in the tank he can come up score a dozen hat tricks and dudes like you can say I told you so.

ok so put MacArthur on waivers to give Kadri a spot

moronic

The way you use "Kadri supporters" seems kind of funny and accusatory, like Leafs fans might not want to be Kadri supporters... don't we all want an abundantly talented kid to succeed?

Get lost, my opinion right now is heavy, very heavy because I'm so sick of what they are doing to this kid. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even want to be a leaf anymore.

Bust or not, a true fan should stand behind their prospects because these are the players who save franchises. Canadian born player with so much skill and yet he just keeps on being thrown to the wolves over and over and over again.

I'm pissed, nothing else to say but that. Stand by your prospects because some of the crap some of you leaf fans spew out is unbelievable and us true fans who bleed blue 365 don't want you here.

I'm not Kads greatest fan and i have no idea if he'll be a quality player at the NHL but we spent a 7th overall pick on him and the kids got skill so it's time to give him his shot and see what he can do .

This teams going nowhere this year so i don't know what's the harm of sticking him in the top 9 and giving 15 mins a night .

Pathetic comeback. I am sorry if you think I trashed your "hero". I was suggesting what "I think" might be best for him.

If he deserves to be here he will be. No matter what you or I think. I guess that you subscribe to the theory that so many "NHL stars" are sitting in the minors because certain organizational prejudices keep them hidden down there.

We can't trade Clarke MacArthur this season?

Some how other teams don't know who Clarke MacArthur is and they need 48 games to see with their own eyes what they would be trading for?

Or we can't just play him in another spot on the Leafs roster?

You got moronic right...

Actually no, most teams wouldn't take that approach. You just answered your own question when you said "You have a team with no chance at being a contender at this point." Bingo.

Kadri going for a Centre spot in Pits? Yeah, then your approach applies.

we've had two different coaches and two different GM's since Kadri was drafted. The fact that he's STILL not being given a shot tells you it's not a personal thing (ie. Wilson vs Kadri beef)

you know what the trade market is like right now? how many GM's have you talked to? that's what i thought

I'm not a big Kadri fan. I hope he pans out to be a Ribeiro type player. I really wish the kid does well for us. I just know that he's so abused and and mistreated in this organization is really...REALLY frustrating. You expect him to act like an NHL vet without being given the experience to become one? Making mistakes is part of growing up in ANY aspect of life. People learn from mistakes. You keep pounding on his self-esteem by sending him down, tell him he's not good enough. One day he'll have enough of this ***** and turn into the next Justin Schultz and sign for a team that's willing to let him try. So what if he's weak defensively? All rookies have weaknesses. I don't understand why a bottom dwelling team like us doesn't let it's youngsters play. It boggles the mind. Maybe it really is racism. lol.

I swear, he'll flourish in MTL when he demands a trade or refuses to sign as an RFA.

GG, Leafs.

What do they do with the other NHL contracts they have?

Sorry, I hadn't realized that playing in the AHL meant being immune to injury.

The compete level and physicality in the NHL is worlds above the AHL. Clearly leads to a greater chance of injury.

Yeah, ask Jake Gardiner, who had a healthy season in the NHL and was concussed in the AHL.:laugh:

This, this, this and this.

I like MacA. He skates hard and you can tell he truely gives a damn.

That being said, if we honestly want to have a competative playoff team, #1C isn't the only hole that needs to be filled in the top 6.

My issue with the comment wasnt about him being good or bad. It was Mac is hardly in the same boat as Lombardi or Connolly. And as per him being a dime a dozen player, he's a completely reliable 2nd or 3rd line player.

Would I trade him, for the right piece or pick. Do I devalue him like many on this site, absolutely not. He's cheap, he's consistent and he wants to play for the Leafs, which is rare for Leafs short term contract players.

Well there's a stretch the season hasn't started yet. Burke left 3 days ago, Carlyle just got here. There was a lockout. We'll see what the start of the season brings.
