If Marty Necas was actually worth a top 4 pick surely you'd be more than happy to give him 10+ million dollars a year in carolina?

His skillset is not top 4 pick worthy. You can dress it up with "oh you just don't see it" but at the end of the day, stats matter, and teams aren't paying top 4 picks for defensively poor, sub PPG wingers
You sure about that? :sarcasm:

27% shooting %, 17% on ice shooting %. Surely sustainable numbers.

Anyway he's dead last among carolina forwards in xGoals share.

He still doesn't fetch 4th overall btw

So tired of people posting these type of stats from small sample sizes as if they are evidence of anything - it’s the #1 indicator that a poster doesn’t understand the game and/or isn’t arguing in good faith.

When something is telling you that Jordan Martinook >>> Martin Necas, why even bother posting it? Use your brain.

That Staal line for the Canes has been a dominant force for years now.

I can increase the sample size if you want

It has been the best line on the canes for a while now.

Necas' shooting % was 10.4 last year. Seriously doubt he's going to sustain the 27% he has so far this year. He's got a real shot at being a point a game (or better) player though. it's still pretty early and even the best players can slump for a little while.

Comparing him to Chytil--they were drafted the same year out of Czechia. Necas has always had a somewhat higher arc than Chytil. Filip's also dealt with numerous (including head) injuries. Filip looks really really good so far this year though---centering the 3rd line. More often than not he's played better than both Zibanejad and Trocheck. He brings the puck up the ice with speed and has been attacking and driving the play very well and his backcheck has been outstanding. First ten games no goals against at all when his line was on the ice. He's breaking up opponents rushes up the ice all the time.

I never understand the shooting percentage argument. He’s got 7 goals on 26 shots. It’s way too small a sample at this point. He could drop his percentage and still get 30-40 goals and 90 pts.

He’s never been a sniper and still isn’t. It doesn’t really have much bearing on him as a player how great his shooting percentage is. Most of his goals are close to the net and don’t require Ovy like shooting skills. Who cares if a percentage is sustainable? Were we really expecting whatever a 27% would net over a season?
