Other Sports: NCAA Thread v12

Eagles fan from the area. Went to Kansas State to play for Wentz’s college coach. Played well enough to get noticed by OSU. :dunno:
Yeah, I looked it up. He chose KSU, in part, because he saw Wentz's picture in the coach's office during his recruitment interview and they chatted about Wentz. Being a PA guy and fan of the Eagles, he also liked Wentz because they were similarly sized and he looked up to him as a role model.

I don't mind Herbstreit. He went against OSU during the Meyer controversy. Actually had to move out of Ohio to Kentucky due to constant harassment of his family for taking an anti-Urban stand. He has a son that is graduating from H.S. this year who chose to go to Michigan. KH went to OSU and so did his Father so he has strong ties to the school. He's personal friends with the Day family.
Having all that being said, I listened to his OSU broadcasts and, IMO, he's pretty much down the road. He gave ND all of the credit that they deserved during the game. The Irish were simply out manned by OSU. Willingham made some questionable decisions which happens when you don't have the horses to run in the race. Herbstreit called him on them.

Ohio State was the most talented roster in college football. I'm not shocked to see them take advantage of an expanded playoff format and win it all. I got a kick out of the expanded playoff narrative that it would expand the field to a potential non-traditional champion, when all it really did was give a bunch of blue bloods a second chance at the playoffs where they would have been out in years past. None of these final four teams would have been in a four-team playoff.

I'm interested to see where the rev sharing piece goes once DC gets their say. 20-million-dollar rosters are not going to be sustainable when the NIL collective contributors realize that their $100 a month is subsidizing the whole thing and keeping the university profits at an all-time high.

Waiting for a national source but the tea leaves have been trending this way the last few days. This guy is the Oklahoma radio play by play guy & they were/are apparently in the mix for Knowles too.

The fact they were willing to potentially make Lynn & now Knowles the highest paid coordinator in college is very encouraging. As I don’t think their resource pool would have been able to swing this a few years ago prior to their current AD getting in & making headway with potential donors.

Edit:

There it is!

Holy shit. They might have the best Coordinator they’ve ever had on both sides?

Yeah for me, my biggest takeaway is they’re getting really serious about spending money now.

They wanted Knowles when he was leaving Oklahoma State a few years ago but couldn’t compete with Ohio State’s offer at that time.

It’s actually interesting the main insider on Penn State’s 247 site that was ahead of this the whole time. He’s from Ohio & was actually getting stuff from Ohio State’s side not really Penn State’s side. He also claimed that Caleb Downs might portal & head back south.

If they spend for some WR talent, they could really have something going.

Kotelnicki having an extra year to work out exactly what to do with a QB that doesn’t fit his usual profile is a big deal. But I think/hope everyone understands their WRs are what defined their ceiling.

Yeah i think the portal is about closed for now but I think it opens back up in the spring for non-grad transfers again.

But it’s apparently put out there that they’re open for business & willing to spend on a WR or two.

Yeah McAfee was right a month or so ago. They tapped into their alumni network within the business world & have created some new donors that weren’t there before.

This was a costly endeavor, not just the contract but Knowles had a $1.5M buyout on his contract with Ohio State too.

I don’t know the contract details are but they also gave Safeties Coach/Co-DC Anthony Pointdexter a new contract to stay today too. He was getting courted by other P4 programs for DC jobs.
