This was the rumor with Judkins, but it's nice having a real source confirm it on the record. What an absolute disaster of a situation for everyone.
They also threw a ton of money around bringing in transfer players. So with the setup we have that’s going to cause issues when current roster players see outsiders coming in making potentially more money than them.
It’s why some schools won’t throw bags at players coming into their program. These use most of their funds for the guys in their program already & don’t really chase the players that are just going to whatever the highest offer on the table is. Some of these schools don’t make big offers from the get go also because they don’t even know if their collective can handle those payments too.
It’s just an utter mess that really only the school administration benefit from but the players, coaches, fans, etc. all get f***ed in the process. I actually feel bad for the collective people too. They have to seriously reach out to regular people hoping to raise money for NIL so they can help their favorite team maintain/improve. Meanwhile some of these big programs are reeling in $50-100M a year in profit
