Chryst was loyal to UW. How did that work for him?

I mean don’t get me wrong I think Wisconsin ended up better with Fickell over those two. But Leonhard got a crash course in it’s a business & you got look out for yourself first & foremost. He willingly devalued himself at Wisconsin over the years as DC. I don’t think he was even over $1M a year there. He could have easily been a $2M a year DC either elsewhere in college or the NFL. He is a young guy still at 40 & had a quick rise in the coaching ranks so he always time on his side & still does. But I guess he thought he could sacrifice some money short term to be at his alma mater & be the unofficial head coach in waiting.

That's a pretty big get for Wisconsin. Guess Fickell started to get the sense that Day is not making the jump anytime soon, and that Cincy kind of capped as a program last year.

Honestly feel like Ohio State is more realistic of an opening within the next year plus then it’s ever been before with them losing again to Michigan. I don’t think they’ll fire Day but I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes NFL interest more seriously now going forward. The pressure is already turned up there after yesterday. He can’t lose again next year.

I’m a Wisconsin grad. Glad to see Fickell get the job. It’s a good fit.
There were, “Hire Meyer.”, chants in the stands during the 4th quarter yesterday. Buckeye fans are the worst. They need to get used to the B1G being a tougher conference. Michigan is back; PSU should be able to contend with the talent that they have; SC is coming.
Day has done a good job. Especially at modernizing the offense. He probably needs to look longer at who he recruits; mostly front runners at skill positions. On Edwards last long TD run only Harrison ran hard to try to catch him. Day needs better guys in the trenches. That’s where the game usually is won or lost.
If Day gets run out of Columbus, good luck to OSU finding a better coach.

Yeah I think it’s ultimately a big boy move from Wisconsin. I think historically they’ve been on that more conservative side in regards to making hires & such. But that’s just not gonna fly for anybody with meaningful expectations in today’s college landscape. It’s big business & it’s cutthroat.

They’ve had some success with their model but I think being in the West opposed to the East in the Big Ten has aided some. That advantage is gonna be going soon going forward. You’re not competing with just Iowa for a spot in the title game soon. You’re gonna be competing with Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, & USC for those spots going forward. I think they knew they needed someone in there who could elevate their recruiting profile. Fickell did developing at Cincinnati but he also recruited at a higher level for their historical standards too.

It sounded like Leonhard was going to get it after last weekend but I guess they made enough headway with Fickell since then obviously.

Leonhard’s been pretty loyal to Wisconsin over the years passing up NFL & bigger college jobs interest/offers for a DC role. So perhaps now more than ever he might actually leave. If that’s the case he’ll be a big name in the assistant coaching carousel.

5 fumbles and only two catches this year but he averages 7.3 yards per carry…for his career.

I don't really get it unless they think he can be OT1 for certain next year? He's already in the conversation for this year.

He’ll be 20 in December. He has nine career starts under his belt. He barely played if at all in his first two years in college. He may have gotten a few garbage time reps in his second year sans the bowl game. He was pretty good in pass blocking this year but he still has ways to go in run blocking.

I think his traits pushed him up the board when every thing else screamed come back for another year. OL in general has a longer development curve in general but you have a guy who’s a lot younger & less experienced than someone in their third year & get high draft praise typically is.

Edit: I’m sure NIL played a part too as said above.

He also went 42-26 at Ole Miss with only one 10 win season. And even in the days of NIL, his recruiting will have to be above reproach. Good luck with that sandwiched between two SEC powerhouses while playing second fiddle in the home state.

Auburn is the hardest job in America when UGA and UA are rolling. That and FSU looks somewhat primed to cut off the panhandle pipeline that they've enjoyed for a while.

So yeah according to the Penn State board insiders Fashunu’s parents wanted him back in college for another year. They wanted him to get another year of maturity on & off the field. He’s an academic All-American so education was a factor too. His parents wanted him to get his degree next year.

Penn State’s boosters gave him a relatively lucrative NIL deal to mitigate the financial concern. As they know next year’s roster is probably the most talented they potentially have had in a long time. So they’re going to be throwing deals at Parker Washington, Curtis Jacobs, etc. to entice them to stay for another year too.

Just some further information. The feedback from NFL people was he was a first rounder but not like a top 5-10 pick like some internet analysts are saying he could be. The lack of experience & longer development curve likely because of that would likely prevent him from going that high. Although he was advised he should probably still enter the draft.
