So Arch transfer when?

I think this and Egbuka both made sense. They’re both long shots for R1 at this point.

If I’m Ewers, I’m only staying in Lubbock if the NFL is not my priority. He can go entire games without putting a ball 20 yards downfield in that offense. It’s a hard cap on his draft stock.

Someone good will take the Alabama job but man Saban leaves off with his normal floor season in his last season (SEC Championship & playoff appearance). So his last season was around the floor or close to of usually what seasons generally ended for them at worst under his reign. I’m taking out his first season where he didn’t inherit a fruitful situation to hit the ground running.

At least other long time legendary coaches at big programs tailed off in the end & were past their peak by the time they ultimately stepped down. Saban’s peak seemingly never really ended it. He had it humming from year 2 to year 17 in his 17 years there.

So good luck to the next guy. That fanbase hasn’t felt anything to hard times in 16 years. It’s probably worse given the social media era as well.

So now we’ve got Lanning staying, Norvell staying with new money, Sark staying with new money, and a report that DeBoer is negotiating a new deal to stay in Washington. Of course that doesn’t matter until it’s done, but they cannot just go to Rees, right? If it’s not DeBoer, they’re going to throw money at someone — Drinkwitz, Stoops, Freeman, whatever.

The timing sure does feel right for DeBoer, though. They even lost Dillon Johnson today.

I think they still would have been ranked because I think DoBoer is a really good coach but probably wouldn’t have been like a bonafide top 5 or probably even 10 team next year. They were one of the oldest rosters in America last year so they stand to lose a lot off this year’s team through graduation &/or draft.

So it makes sense for DoBoer to jump now especially with a job of Alabama’s caliber calling.

People some times wonder why colleges sign such stupid deals with coaches all the time & then you see 1-2 agents who basically represent pretty much all the coaches at the P5 level.

Jimmy Sexton represents Nick Saban, Kalen DeBoer, Steve Sarkisian, & Mike Norvell amongst others. All four were major players in this Alabama search.

The schools go into these negotiations with these agents in the dark while the agent goes into them knowing all the answers.

I know you said among others but Dan Lanning is another, haha.

Yeah if you’re at the P5 level & have a good contract odds are you’re represented by either Jimmy Sexton or Trace Armstrong. These two are guys who probably most in the public don’t know but have some of if not the most influence in college football.

It’s like legal fixed bidding, these two run against these major schools.

I think this might be the most sensible thing. It’s late in the cycle in regards to recruiting/transfer market so this might help with retaining what recruits/roster players you currently have in place.

There's almost no chance they can hire someone who would be considered a significantly better option. Grubb was getting a P5 job sooner than later anyway. It just makes too much sense not to happen.

While we're here, how much money did Ohio St boosters stick out to get a half dozen draft locks to stay? This is absurd. Henderson's staying now too.

The last two announcements were the ones I didn’t really get. JTT is inconsistent but pass rushers usually get pushed up the board. Henderson as a RB is pretty explanatory (he’s dealt with a fair amount of injuries the last two years as well).

I’m sure they all got taken care of money wise but I think the others had legit reasons to come back beyond that. Egbuka & Burke for example saw their draft stock seemingly go down as the year went on.

Finebaum was unbelievable today. You’ve got one guy calling Saban a Yankee because West Virginia sided with the North in the Civil War and another accusing Ben Bradlee of fraud for making up stories about Nixon.

I think someone should ask him to explain why WVA did so, and then additionally explain why it is a bad thing.

Admittedly Johnny was only in my life for 90 seconds, but I’m reasonably certain a caller to the Finebaum show who provides a picture of himself for the screen has his mind made up about pretty much everything related to the Civil War.

Sure, and that's why it's funny to make him announce that he thinks opposing slavery is bad. They need someone on these shows to smash these teeballs to the moon when they are presented. It would be even more entertaining

The Alabama honks are all loving the DeBoer hire, but a lot of potential downside there. He's only been an FBS head coach for four years and certainly never at an SEC level job. Even by Pac 12 standards, UW is pretty low profile. He also has no recruiting ties to the region. The SEC has seen plenty of high end X's and O guys flame out because they just don't get the level of player needed. You need both in that conference.
