For whatever reason I thought he was in his second year when I posted that, which to me it’s actually probably more intriguing he was only a first year player this year. I think he played 84 snaps (I’d imagine mop up duty). Perhaps there is still some unlocked potential there & he still has time on his side

But yeah Penn State needs outside corners more than it needs safety/nickel/hybrid guys. Those positions are actually pretty strong for them & have returning production. Their outside corners are talented but they were first & second year players this year. So I’d imagine they like his potential & are just throwing another body into the mix so they can get enough sticks.
I think he was a gunner on ST as well. He definitely still has a bunch of upside. I can tell you Kirby definitely didn't want to lose him, but with Humphrey/Everette coming back and a freak show in Robinson coming in, there was no clear path to playing time for a kid that wanted to be three and done.

I do think moving him inside was going to limit his upside, so this is one of the rare moves that has all upside for the player moving on.

As a Michigan fan because my dad went there, my earliest sports memories were of the Charles Woodson team. Happy to see them back on top after almost 3 decades and some rough years

8.7 yards a clip on the ground for Michigan. They just bully’d Washington in the trenches.
I can't help but feel like it's just another year where a legitimate top four team played a top four resume team and the talent gap was pretty apparent about five minutes into the game.

Edit: I thought Washington was just ok all year. They were way too pedestrian at times considering the conference they played in. They beat Oregon twice, but only had one win by double digits or more in conference play.

I actually do think Oregon is best equipped of those four PAC-12 teams entering the Big Ten because of their LOS play.

Also because they are the greatest program in the history of programs. Sco Ducks.

Now we get to wait and see which NFL team Harbaugh goes to. I wouldn't mind him going to the Chargers. Sco Justin.

So it's basically safe to get behind Lanning? I got burned believing in Crystalball for the five minutes I did.
I think so, yeah. With the expanded playoff, they'll be one of the annual contenders with OSU, Michigan and PSU in the B1G. He's going to maul the second-tier teams pretty regularly with the LOS advantage.

Lanning is a defensive guy, so I think it'll come down to the same two things that it comes down to with Saban and Kirby. Who will he hire as OC, especially after staff attrition, and will he be able to keep the QB room at an elite level?

Well Michigan is the new Clemson model for this next tier of teams that aren’t Georgia, Alabama, or Ohio State.
We’ll see if that lasts when Harbaugh leaves. What we really had here was the two best-experienced teams. A very strange game how this played out.

I definitely think it’s a one off for Michigan but realistically that’s about as much as you could hope for if you’re one of those next tier teams. Those three other programs just recruit at a much higher clip than everybody else they’re really the only ones that could potentially sustain it.

Clemson sustained a little longer but that required hitting on two star QB’s in such short succession in Watson & Lawerence as well as having an overqualified DC in Venables stay as long as he did.

I said a few pages back but even beyond the scandal & Harbaugh potentially leaving Michigan is gonna take a hit on their roster for next year. They’re probably gonna have a double digit draft picks this year & they don’t recruit well enough to sustain those type of losses. They don’t have a QB in house if McCarthy goes as well & the QB portal market has dried up at this point.

Harbaugh flirting with the NFL the past few years has actually killed whatever potential increase in recruiting momentum they could have had with their increased on the field results.

But if you’re a Michigan fan you happily take that trade off now. Same as would any other similar program in their shoes.

Alabama is certainly an interesting case study. You had arguably two of the best college head coaches of all time in Bear Bryant & Nick Saban but sandwiched between them is a lot of cap & run of the mill type of coaches.

Gene Stallings would be the only exception in between but for all the good he did he got them hammered by the NCAA in the end.
