With two first round picks coming back, I don't hate this deal for the Knicks. Especially if they're confident they can land a big name FA.

With all that, plus the injury questions, it seems pretty fair in the end. But I'm also a Nets fan, so I don't have any emotional attachment to KP to interfere with my judgment.

Defending this deal as it was first announced is ludicrous. But if there are two firsts included it definitely softens the blow.

If Knicks wind up drafting at 3 what would it take to move to 1? With an extra 2 firsts it might be feasible but I don't know the value of moving up in the nba.

Anyone think the Knicks flip one of those 1sts for Lonzo? He's about to be traded to New Orleans but only wants to play in LA, Chicago, or NY. The extra draft capital could help the Knicks land him.

IF Porzingis really wanted out and he was going to bet on himself to stay heathy, so he could become a UFA in 2020. IF it's true that there was little interest around the league....

Then it's a good deal for the Knicks.

They won't get the benefit of the doubt though. Cause #Knicks.

This is soooo dangerously KD or bust.

If he doesn't come, why would Kawhi leave the Raptors for the Knicks? Why would Kyrie leave the Celtics for the Knicks? Why would Butler leave PHI for the Knicks? Why would any free agent choose the Knicks over the Lakers and playing with Lebron?

If KD leaves the Warriors don't they have the max to offer Klay? Why would he leave that team to start over with Durant in NY?

I'm afraid it hasn't been mentioned enough that even though there are a bunch of really enticing FAs available, they're ALL ON REAL GOOD TEAMS ALREADY. Pretty much every one of them is already playing alongside another All-star.

Not to mention why trade for DSJ if you're planning/hoping to sign one of Kyrie or Kemba?

I'm starting to think this really was a lot more about what went on behind closed doors with KP and his "crew's" plans for his future rather than a clearly defined plan to free up max slots this off-season. I believe Kristap's group told the Knicks he'd sign the QO and become a free agent if the Knicks didn't commit to winning this year/next. Mgmt likely pushed back, saying they're committed to youth this year, possibly even said they wouldn't consider trading the 1st pick -- and KP's camp said either the team trades picks/prospects to compete next year or he's leaving. At that point it became clear, KP wanted Lebron-like control of the franchise, even with the fact he hasn't played since tearing his ACL, and is still more valuable in potential than performance to this point. For better or worse, management couldn't convince KP to believe in the direction of the franchise and at that point a trade was the only option. I suspect the trade market for KP was a lot lower than most of us expect, and knowing he was leaving, the best plan to mgmt seemed to be to take the risk of opening up cap space.

So now we pray for Durant to save us....

You will be entirely shocked that human anal wort Michael Kay and LeGreca are acting as Garden propaganda ministers on ESPN Radio. And the one time in my entire life I want to listen to Fancessa and the guy is talking nothing but football.

Was thinking the same thing. It was disgusting how much they were kissing the Knicks ass with this trade. Not surprised though as they would never insult those who sign their paychecks

**** like this is why I'm legitimately just not even a Knicks fan anymore.
Its insane. With their history and being the “Mecca” and all that crap they should be a top 5 franchise. Cautionary tale about owner meddling and prolonged ineptness can kill the fanbase. Overwhelming majority of Knicks fans are apathetic and resigned to failure. It’s a damn shame. I really hope they can land either one of the top 2 picks this year and one of the big free agents. However it would be so Knicks to fall to 6 or 7 in the lottery and then end up with this years FA class version of Noah and THJ signing big
Deals instead of KD or Kyrie.

Let Dolan ruin them and leave the Rangers alone tho.

Yep. Dolan treats the Knicks like a 5th grade science project. In the words of one Sean Avery, James Dolan owner of the New York Rangers is the best owner in all of professional sports.

Well, NYC is the Mecca of baseball, that's the first thing the Knicks need to know, but I digress.

A few weeks ago James Dolan said Lundqvist could get the Rangers into the playoffs by himself and the Knicks "simply don't have that." I said it that night and I still say that was a direct clap at Porzingis.

Could they theoretically sign 3 UFAs? Like Kwai, KD and Irving?
Two at max value deals. More if not at max.

But I think there is next to zero chance any of the big FAs come to the Knicks, especially since the one reason any of them would sign here is now in Dallas.

But do they make this move with out some idea that they have a good shot at signing 2 of the top UFAs this summer?

I would hope they learned after what happened trying to clear space for lebron.

Yeah that’s a good call by you.

Though Dolan should realize Henrik is a generational and hall of fame player, he can get a guy for the Knicks that can be not that level of player and still be worth keeping. If you compare your players to Lundqvist prime caliber there’s like 5 or 6 guys on the league right now that will meet that requirement, right? Lebron, Steph, KD, Kawahi. Who else?

Of course basketball is whole different world bc your stars play almost the whole game. If the Knicks somehow end up with 2 of KD, Kyrie, Kawahi, Zion then this ends up amazingly. So who knows.

For the record I do not believe this is true. Any one of Durant/Khawi/Kyrie/Butler and possible even Klay or Kemba would be more incentive to sign here than KP. Not to mention if we do somehow luck out and get Zion at 1st overall. All of these players (save Zion) have a proven track record of better success than KP.
