Loved Kadri this year but see no scenario in which Sakic would be enticed to pay what he'll demand after the season he's had. Someone is gonna throw him at least 7m for at least 4 years. It would be nice if he comes back all rosy-cheeked for some team friendly sweetheart deal but he is not gonna do that. Yes the Avs will have to answer the 2C question but diving face first into a bad contract with an aging player after a bonkers career year... Eeeesh. Val Nichushkin, I prioritize.

I think he'll go somewhere like Seattle.

As a player that turns 32 at the start of the next season I think term is more important than dollars. He would take 7x7.5 rather than 4x8.5.

Unfortunately I think this is his run to get a cup of they don't get it done he'll be signing with a bottom team with cap space.

Every time I think GMs are wising up to the idea of not signing guys to expensive deals that last til their late 30s, someone or other proves me wrong, so - I think you're right.

I'd guess $8.5-$9 x 5 years ... I can't see teams lining up with a 7 term given his age but they'll take a higher AAV over 5 years, which is still an overpay.

Naz is a scary guy to give term to. One good year, plays a style that puts his body on the line. Has magical moments when you need him most.

But if you need a 1/2 C he must be awfully tempting.....

I personally don't see him as a first-line center. He's more of a second-line.

He's not a 1 on a Cup team, that's for sure. He did the job for us for a year during the rebuild and got 60 some points if I recall, which is Barzal territory. Not ideal but he's serviceable.

Edit: I should add he has probably grown as a player since then.

Has to be the highest risk contract in a while. Career long 40-60 point guy who suddenly puts up 100 at age 31.

Naz turning 32 this year makes me feel very old. He's an interesting case. Has has an incredible year, but I think teams are going to be pretty hesitant to go big on term and money for someone of his age. Matt Duchene got $8x7, but got it when he was 28, 4 years younger than Kadri is now. Maybe an imperfect comparison, but NSH went in to that hoping they'd have value early on to offset a guy making that much money at age 35. Kadri is already 32 and for as well as the season has gone, has fewer premium seasons left in him. If he wants term, I think he's actually looking at something in the $6m-$7m range. He might be one of those guys who goes into UFA with people thinking a bidding war will give him something absurd, but winds up with something pretty rational.

Kadri is a UFA at the end of the year and is currently on an absolute heater of a season and hasn't really slowed down at all. He has 37 points in 23 games, which is by far his best season since 2012-2013.

He is 31 years old, will likely be 32 as soon as the next season starts. What is he going to fetch for his next contract? What teams might be interested?
He will likely be 32?
Teams that may need a top-6 center next offseason (alphabetically):
Arizona
Boston
Buffalo
Colorado
Columbus
Detroit
Minnesota
New York Rangers
Ottawa

That's off the top of my head. From there we can start the process of elimination on who a) will have the money for him, and b) current state of team warrants signing him
Philly needs to be on this list. They don’t have the cap as of yet, but they will. Fletcher will likely trade picks to obtain rights and corner himself. This would be a bad move for the flyers but Fletcher.
