I agree, Bozak fits that line to a T, we have him at 4.2 for 4 years and this season, as we do with JVR and Kessel.

As long as they are together, we will have one of the best lines in hockey. As a Leafs fan there is no more improving this line. All 3 have played lights out this season. They played well last season too. There is reason to think they might even get better as JVR and Bozak continue to add to career years.

Kadri is good with Lupul, my concern is they are too one dimensional, Lupul has been horrendous defensively this year. Clarkson will help out there.

But I agree with you 100%, you don't put all your talented guys all on one line. Not in a cap structure. Want it spread around on the top 2 lines.
If you believe that line needs to be overhauled trading the older injury prone Lupul seems like a better idea long term than Kadri who is much younger and still getting better.
I would like to see Kule resigned and kept on that line for his defensive and board play personally.

I do agree that I dont understand the constant desire of many to replace Bozak on that top line when he is clearly working out quite well there.

Trust me, Neither do I, just how much better can Kessel and JVR be this year? Not at all.

Lets revisit this in the off-season when that line gets shut down by an elite defensive team and Bozak goes completely invisible. Funny people talk about how Bozak is good for Kessel when all his success playing against Boston has come with Kadri playing with him.

I don't think anyone is talking about breaking up the first line right now. They are doing well so far this year. Plus we don't have another center besides Kadri that can provide offense for the second line. Kessel is the spark plug for the first line, and Kadri is it for the 2nd. Question is, is Bozak just having a career year and will revert to the past couple years, or is this the Bozak we are going to see for the long term? Will Bozak "Clarkson" our hopes?

Ya, funny that the last sentence never gets mentioned, only the 10 game stretch this season, when we were missing two other centers, and relying on one line.

I hope Bozak can play on a line without Kessel. When Tim Conolly was brought in to play with Kessel, Bozak did not show he could put up any points. Although Tim made it easy to put Bozak back with Kessel.

If we trade Kadri for a better center like you suggest Bozak would have to move down in the lineup, I don't like his chances being a 50 pt center without Kessel.

Let's revisit this right now, I love how Bozak keeps proving his haters wrong. Nice pass by Bozak again to Phil.

It's incredible that in a slump season Kadri is on pace for 60 points, even though he's played more than 20% of the time with an offensive black-hole known as Clarkson.

I don't know if Kadri is more dangerous in the offensive zone or defensive zone...

Give him 5 years to prove and he will be better than Bozak defensively, Bozak was not even close to kadri defensively at this point in his development.

He was minus 29 in his second year.

Yup, people like to ignore players past. Like they never had time to develop a strong over all NHL game. Like they had it from day one. Young players take time to develop. And he already displays a skill set only seen in one other leaf, Kessel. I'm happy for Bozak that at 28, he is starting to produce, but don't act like it was already there from the start.

why do we want kesler? he would be nice but he is 29 and is bolland-like in terms of injury. Can you imagine if both him and bolland are out at the same time? Also, I'm sure others notice this but we won't be legitimate contenders for at least a couple more years. By that time Kesler will be around 32-33. Nazzy would be starting into his prime. And people would be ok with him and gardiner going? my gawd

Kessel will be 32 by then, Phaneuf 34.

What good is this, when your core players are hitting past their primes.

Kesler is in his prime right now. :naughty:

WHY would we trade Kadri for Kessler?

Kessler is not going to help us unless he is centering the top line.....and to trade a young gifted Center for a banged up older one is not something you do unless you are a cup contender.

Kadri is fine and will be next year and the year after that etc.....

The chances of Kadri being better than Kesler are not likely. He simply doesn't have the awareness, strength, game to be a Selke caliber player Kesler is.

On that vein, there are no ifs in Kesler's game at 29. When he is healthy he is simply a better player than Kadri, Bozak, or Bolland for that matter.

2 way players win championships, not one way players.

We are a ways away from winning a championship in my eyes and again you do not trade young players for older well used players unless you believe you are very close to contending. I like Kadri's game as he bring great skill and a mean streak....as well as the ability to draw penalties. He is getting stronger and should be a good player for many years still.

If I was going to trade for a center Bozak would be the center I would move....his value is at the highest it will ever be and he is not a number one center that all teams need if they are going to compete for a championship. He gets out muscled at the dot as well as off the puck. Bozak is a useful player but he is currently having a career year.

The ifs:
1. Health
2. Top line scoring ability

Along with Rick Nash, he is the other big player who looked like a shell of his former self in Sochi. I get that hes probably better on smaller ice, but hes simply not quick enough to score 40 goals or put up 70 points again.

I dont see a point where he even outscores Kadri for points. Yeah hes better defensively, but hes not the answer. When he was Kadri's age, he had 37 points in a season total.

PLEASE for god sake give Kadri time

Bozak is actually horrific defensively. This was an excellent piece that chopped down the myth that Bozak is a "steady defensive presence" on that top unit with Kessel and JVR.

This is the perfect time to sell high on him. His ES SH% is not sustainable and is more luck driven than anything else. SELL! SELL! SELL! SELL!

Why would you move a Center that we have spent 4 years developing, as Anaheim did for Andy Mcdonald, and just when we are ready to reap the rewards deal him?

Seems like cutting off your legs just when you are ready to run. Bozak, Kessel, and JVR are locked in for 4 years after this season, this assures us one of the best lines in hockey. We know how badly JVR and Kessel played without Bozak so again why are people trying to improve on something that doesn't need improving?

BTW Bozak rarely gets muscled off the puck like Kadri is, because he is smart in how he uses his stick and body postiiton, if Kadri was smart he would learn a thing from Bozie.

Because we now know after a large enough sample size what Tyler Bozak is. He is a below average offensive player who also happens to be atrocious defensively. This is a 4th line role player who happens to be on a nice little unsustainable scoring binge. This would be the time to move him.
