I already told you when he said it

Against TB at ACC last season. Going up against stamkos line. Where he had 3 assists
The game was on march 20th 2013

That is different than how you presented it, saying Kadri was good defensively after a game last March is a lot different than saying Kadri is flat out good defensively.

He said always good defensively. Seriously? It doesnt matter when or how he said it, he still said it
He also said he was never shy in that area

Comparison

Age 22/23

Tyler Bozak 37 GP, 8 G, 19 A, 27 P, -5
Nazem Kadri 48 GP, 18 G, 26 A, 44 P, 15

Age 23/24

Tyler Bozak 82 GP, 15 G, 17 A, 32 P, -29
Nazem Kadri 56 GP, 15 G, 26 A, 41 P, -9 (on going)

I think +/- is highly overrated, but others take it as gospel, so I included it. Don't want to be accused of hiding anything. If you do like +/-, then Kadri is looking not bad at all in comparison.
Kadri is starting to heat up as of late, and is going to smash Bozak's numbers for the second year.

the Dream takes on his first Hat Trick !

It was a beautiful hat-trick at that! Funny I read this I just finished watching the highlights of his hat-trick last year against NYI, man it was sick! Nazzy is by far our most skilled center.

Underrated stat but Kadri draws more penalties than bozak, bolland and holland combined/60.

So let me get this straight.
Words to describe nazem
Elite offensive player
Physical.
Good D game
Penalty drawing machine
Annoying to other team
A favorite of RC

But should be traded?
Yup makes sense

To be fair, Bozak played on a much worse Leafs team then they both play on now but the point is still valid. Bozak has had a good season to boot, but Kadri is younger and has a lottt more upside.

Whatever happens with Kadri, trade or no trade, as I said last summer before it happened. Kadri will provide us better production at #2C than Grabovski did. And thus we are a better team for it. Kadri will help the Leafs whether this is on the ice, or in a trade. He is a valuable player and trade chip for Nonis to use when he deems best.

Hey Corsbovski is only 30. There's still time for him to develop into a 60+ point center like Kadri.

Further, here is the irony of the Kadri situation before his contract is up.

The better Kadri plays, the more likely he will be traded IMO. Other GM's will be more willing to ask Nonis to include Kadri in a deal if that bridge is crossed.

The better Kadri plays, the more value he has to Nonis. And this in turn may give Nonis no choice. You know he is not going to deal the #1 line, Clarkson, Lupul, or Phaneuf. These guys are locked in with MNTC.

Agreed. I'm personally excited to see what will happen next summer when Kadri probably wants a long term, does nonis give Kadri a lucrative deal or trade him? At the same time does Kadri push Bozak for the #1C position or will he be cemented as a #2C? Or maybe does Holland beat Kadri for a top 6 spot? So many possibilities:yo:

If Bozak is replaced on the #1 line, it won't be Kadri. He has no chemistry with JVR, and he and Kessel are too much a like to be effective together with one difference. Kadri likes to slow up the play, and Kessel wants to speed it up. Kadri is in his spot right now, only needs to become a better professional and tighened up his defence.
Points will always be in his game, what he needs to work on is team>stats

I liked Kadri and Kessel together last year but this year they stunk. But if Nonis does give Kadri a big deal like 5-5.5mil I don't think its because he thinks Kadri will be the teams #2C for the next 5 years or whatever, it'll be because he thinks Kadri can contest to that 1st line position.

Kadri can be number 1 C without playing with kessel.
Why not create 2 number 1 lines? Get a ladd type player. Hopefully

Great, now we are discussing the root of the matter.

What Nonis envisions with our cap when Kadri is a RFA. This a pertinent and important point on what we do with Kadri.

We know negotiations were tough for a bridge contract, they are going to be tougher next time around.

All these things make Kadri a viable target for trade talks.

I look at it this way, the better kadri plays in the meantime, the better it is for our team on the ice or if and when we cross that bridge a trade.

As a Leafs fan it is a win win, we got rid of 5.5, we got Kadri progressing, and we have him for 2 more years if Nonis deems this a plus.

Ok but lets say Kadri gets traded, who takes over #2C? Bolland? Holland? Or is a cheaper #2C coming back from the Kadri trade?

Finally something i agree on. Especially the last part!

I really didn't like Kadri and Kessel together this year. And I dont know that I ever will. they both like to be the main puck carrier on their line and I don't think that they will mesh well.

That said I think that it is important to have 2 strong scoring lines and have no problem with paying a #2 center 5-5.5M long term if he is worth it.

I dont buy the idea that your best or most talented center has to be your number 1 center either. I like spreading out the offense and Bozak plays better with Kessel even if Kadri is a better offensive player.

I agree, Bozak fits that line to a T, we have him at 4.2 for 4 years and this season, as we do with JVR and Kessel.

As long as they are together, we will have one of the best lines in hockey. As a Leafs fan there is no more improving this line. All 3 have played lights out this season. They played well last season too. There is reason to think they might even get better as JVR and Bozak continue to add to career years.

Kadri is good with Lupul, my concern is they are too one dimensional, Lupul has been horrendous defensively this year. Clarkson will help out there.

But I agree with you 100%, you don't put all your talented guys all on one line. Not in a cap structure. Want it spread around on the top 2 lines.
