In my opinion Kadri is a 2c, playing 3c because of our depth. He needs to return 2c on a sweetheart contract trade value. I’m not sure if he gets that after the playoff suspension.

However, the fact we have him being slightly under utilized here, (3c instead of 2c), and absolutely nothing on our right side defense... a trade might make sense if we think we’re gonna be ok at 3c without him.

Nylander could slot into 3c.

I don’t really want to see Kadri go, I like what he brings to the team. But depending who we get in return.. i could be ok with it.

Tbh if we can get a 1st pairing D for Nylander and 2nd pairing D for Kadri.

We can internally and by FA make our team better. Because the core is already strong...its about finding the right players for top6 winger and 3C

3C should be a heavy , no BS worker that is relied on for lesser mins.

Nylander can be replaced by a Bracco type on the wings. Or in recent memory it's been Kapanen/Johnsson type

Think

Hyman - Tavares - Marner
Kapanen - Matthews- Bracco
Johnsson - F/A - Moore

Rielly - Trouba / Ekblad/ etc
Muzzin - Pesce / Hamilton/ etc

I agree with this in principle. You re-allocate from having 3 top end forward lines and 2 defenseman to 2 top end forward lines and 4 defensemen. Somehow i am hoping for this season we can unload Marleau and Z and keep 3 lines, add a defense so 3 defense and give Dermott a shot at 4th slot. and give Bracco Sandin and Lily 1 more year to develop. then if we can't get over the top make your moves next summer.

I get it. He certainly has 2 strikes now. and you know what happens with 3rd strike? .
I do know what happens. He gets suspended, the media takes their cue and begins to egg the fans on, it quickly degenerates into a competition to be the most outraged "Won't somebody think of the children?" (some fans were actually saying this lol) and while that circus is happening in the background Kadri quietly earns himself even more respect from his teammates and coaches.

Then fire the coaches and trade away all the players who think this way....because those suspensions absolutely hurt the team.

Since when did winning the cup become secondary?

So much respect that Kadri did not accompany the Leafs on the final trips to Boston.

Make no mistake management is pissed.

sure, you're entitled to that opinion.
i think trading Kadri while he has exceptional value. i think it behooves the Leafs to move him now. because as no one is capable of answering -

1: why do we need a 30 goal scorer on the third line? We don't. that's a luxury.
2: do you think kadri can score 30 goals this season with limited time?
3: if you feel that he can do that - don't you think other teams will want him to be a 2nd line centre and pay handsomely for that?

because it's either he can't - and we should should maximize his return before it diminishes. or he can - and we should capitalize on it before it diminishes.
1. Yes, Kadri is a luxury
2. No. I’m surprised he ever scored 30 goals. He did it twice... I expect him to put up around 15-20g - 25-30a and compete every shift for 4.5m
3. If it makes sense for the team, do it!

That's the most likely scenario

I just think we have the right pieces to turn a offensive minded team into a structured , deep , strong in all positions contender.

There's Kuraly's in FA every year.... we need a bottom 6 on a mission.

I hope Willy sticks in the top6 ; but it's becoming quite apparent that he should be the chip used to complete our backend.

Let's not deny facts to fit our visions.

True facts are:
He is standing up for his team.
He does drop gloves
He does lay big hits.

... and he throws questionable hits that he shouldn't.

Getting suspended repeatedly for losing your temper is not standing up for your team. It's the exact opposite really. At least this time I think he hit the player who hit Marleau, last season he just destroyed someone who wasn't even involved.

Dubas: well, you know we've talked to Naz before and we'll talk to him again but the fact of the matter is the suspension length is just going to keep getting longer...

i'd agree with that assessment.

I would only trade Naz for a RD and nothing else.

Our depth will massively suffer if Matthews goes down again. We can put willy there, but then his RW will probably be half trash, which sounds horrid for a second line. I don't even want to think what the 3rd line looks like.

Outside the incidents were he got suspended, He stands up for his team.

have to cut ties with that chapter.

I definitely see this being the case.

Just kind of unfortunate that we're going to end up with zero longterm assets from Gardiner, JVR and Bozak.

I'd trade him for a cheaper 3C that's more suited to that specific role

We need a center that can PK and do plenty of heavy lifting so Tavares and Matthews don't have to, not doing stupid **** when things get tight would also be a bonus

He's a luxury item with our cap situation, I'm happy to keep him but I'd definitely be looking at potential trade options
