For Crews to have been widely ranked as #1 in the best draft class since before the pandemic is a pretty good indicator the kid will be a hitting machine. Needs to elevate a bit more for consistent home runs, but the rest of the package is a major boon for them for the next half decade plus. Crews is also expected to be able to play a solid center field in the majors.

Bradfield surprises me, but the Os have shown an ability to improve the hitting of their prospects. If they can make a guy with 80 speed and 70-80 defense in center into an average or better hitter, that's an all star. (He apparently only weighs about 170 though, so isn't likely to ever become much of a power hitter. I think Baseball America projected him to have 30 grade power..)

Tristan looks like he has some potential. Rollins is a scrapper. JD the best player in the first two games which is at it should be. Coolibaly is good on the dside. Has a better handle than I expected. Considering the growth jump probably not surprising.

Bilal really does play like a dude who was 5'9, or whatever, and just blew up. It'll take some time to adjust to his size but I think, for the first time since we drafted Beal, I'm excited for a first round pick.

Also I was torn on Skenes vs Crews, but after seeing some stuff on the pitcher I am more then happy with the bat.

"The son of former Cuban National Team member Andy Morales, who played briefly in the Yankees and Red Sox systems, Yohandy Morales was a Top 200 prospect as a Florida high school standout, but wasn’t taken in the shortened 2020 Draft largely because of his commitment to the University of Miami. He stepped right into the Hurricanes’ lineup in 2021, hitting 11 homers as a freshman, then took another step forward as a sophomore, hitting 18 home runs and finishing with an OPS over 1.000 before hitting .400 for Team USA over the summer."

I thought his last name rang a bell. Son of Andy Morales looks like hes had some baseball training. And his college stats last season are outstanding, lets see what he does vs pro pitchers

Have never even heard of Westfield HS.
Wrong sport - but Westfield had three alumni in the NFL - Eddie Royal, Evan Royster (who even played for WAS), and Mike Glennon. Mike's older brother, Sean Glennon, was also a starting QB at Virginia Tech but didn't never played a snap in the NFL (although he did have contracts with the Vikings).

Good day for NOVA baseball, three taken in the first two rounds.
Eldridge at 16, from Vienna Virginia (James Madison H.S.)
Farmelo at 29, from Centreville, Virginia (Westfield H.S.)
Williamson at 57, from Chantilly, Virginia (William and Mary and probably Chantilly H.S.)

Nationals Day 2 draft. Good summary below.

Sykora will likely command an above-slot bonus to forgo that college commitment, which is why the Nats spent the rest of Day 2 choosing mostly college seniors. Senior signs enter the Draft with little leverage, and they are typically lower-cost signs. Washington selected six with their final seven picks of Day 2, the goal being to earmark pool money to sign not only Sykora, but Crews and Morales as well.
“I think we did a super job,” Nats vice president of scouting Kris Kline said. “Everybody in there, making our pool money work to the best of our ability, and that kind of translated into getting three first-round picks. So it was a good day, a good two days.”

I don’t understand how anyone follows the MLB Draft.
It is weird. Unlike the NHL draft here there are HSers and 4 year college players. The underslotting and overslotting I can understand mostly it is throwing money at HSers to get them to sign instead of going to college.

Different teams seem to have different tendencies like preferring college bats. But drafting HS pitchers seems like the most risky so generally not in the first round.
