Nicely done Morocco, they managed to gift more than Senegal.... :sarcasm:

He is talented and has potential to be a much better player than he is right now. Hopefully he takes that next step.

Then and there

*Raum has been called up for Gosens, who's second child will be born soon.

Why four keepers? I don't think Blaswich is really an international level player, even as a backup.

I haven't watched Stuttgart as much as I should have given their success so far, but is Chris Fuhrich really a worthy call-up?

There are players missing of course, but that is really quite a terrible roster, borderline good enough of making the QFs of Euro2024.

Führich is partially a recipient of how fantastic Guirassy has been but has been very good this season.

Happy to see Ducksch get a call-up. He's not really up to that quality, but am ok to continue exploring guys that know and can fill a specific role well on the squad over playing a more talented player in a position he can't really fulfill.

Not sure why Blaswich, because even Baumann and Trapp don't really get minutes behind Ter Stegen, let alone the spectre of Neuer still looming. He also hasn't been particularly good in Gulácsi's absence.

I dunno why Blaswich was picked, maybe Nagelsmann has no familiarity with him prior to this season and so wanted to see him in training?

Führich shouldn't ever start for a NT that can pick from the likes of Sane, Wirtz, Musiala, Havertz, Brandt, etc. to cover the wings, but he's a very nifty player, like Groß & Hofmann...although he's not as versatile as either of them (yet?). I'd pick him ahead of Gnabry or Müller.

The big curiosity for me is why no Schlotterbeck. I get JN ignoring form with Süle because of their history, but Nico deserves a spot way more than Süle, Tah, Rüdiger, or Thiaw. Maybe he thinks Nico is a little traumatized with the NT atm and would be better served just building his confidence with his excellent club form?

They showed a "fancy stat" during the BVB/Stuttgart match today that showed Blaswich is something like 4th in the league in saves above expected for the season so far. I still don't think he's been particularly impressive, but I guess his performance may have been a little better than the eye test to justify a reward call-up.

Southgate fills injury gaps in the England squad with callups for Cole Palmer, Rico Lewis, and Ezri Konsa.

First two make huge sense for me - young guys who have been stellar for the u21s and (in Cole's case especially) really breaking through at club level.

Konsa has me stumped. He's 26, so it's not a young guy you're giving an entry to. I don't think he's a Conor Coady-type "he's amazing in the dressing room" callup. So it's wacky. I feel like there must be a young CB who could grab some minutes in these games now that qualification is clinched.

Konsa has been absolutely outstanding for Villa since Mings went down. He's not a Coady type for dressing room harmony either. Might be trying to cap-tie him so he doesn't declare for Portugal?

Up until the Newcastle game, I woud've never said this, but his form and leadership since that game has drastically changed my opinion on him. Now, I'd really argue he's the best CB in the England squad right now (and has been performing as a top 5 CB in the PL this season). Does this mean he should get a call-up? No clue, but if someone like Branthwaite got called up over Konsa, i'd be extremely confused. (I know Maguire is going to start, but that's not a convo any of us probably want to have)

According to several Somali sources, a player from the national team (who is preparing to face Algeria) and from the local championship would have defected during the training camp in Tunisia, in the hope to join Europe as a political refugee.

According to the sources that leaked that information, the Somali federation would hesitate to communicate on the subject, for fear of causing other player defections.

Uruguay squad has Suarez back (which is good imo since I didn't think there was anyone good enough to back up Nuñez). We got hit with a huge loss in Nahitan Nandez who I thought was one of our best players last few games. We did get Betancur and Gimenez back. So I think on paper we're slightly stronger than when we played Brasil. Argentina will be tough though.Hopefully Bielsa makes the right choices (starts Suarez on the bench).

Salah had scored for times on Djibouti. There’s a joke on there, somewhere.

Man, wasn’t Peru pretty good just a few years back?

They’ve failed to a score a goal in 5 qualifiers thus far.

Hollywood should make a movie about Luis Diaz' last month, it already has a superb ending, and it's probably the story of the year in football. I have to admit I teared up watching this interview of his father after the game:
