Benzema out for the next games, so everyone was expecting DD to call up Gouiri instead.
And he calls back Giroud...

I'm not saying he isn't good. I just don't see the point of calling up someone that old when a guy like Gouiri is tearing it up at 21.
Heck Gouiri should have been called instead of Ben Yedder too.

Maybe, he's a better fit with the rest of the players.

We can't know unless Gouiri gets a chance.
Those are friendlies. You have to try new things.
And Gouiris outstanding technique makes me think he'd fit better.

Basically, Giroud is proven and knows this team well. But since we're in friendlies, DD should try to call up the leading players of tomorrow to send a signal rather than stay conservative. And Gouiri is like Benzema with less natural scoring ability (arguable comparing to the same age), less power but more technique (Benz is however a great technician) and a better passer.

Maybe, it depends on which teams you face, too. If you have teams like Lietchenstein, you can just put anyone in place of Benzema.

Isn't Ben Yedder ligue 1 top goalscorer though?

Nah YBY's movement and small space mastering was always impressive.
This year he has lost a step. Part of it might be his team struggling offensively (Volland and co) but he was a key to that too.

In a way that's what I meant. I also notice Aguiar every time I watch Monaco, why does he never get minutes for the national team? His is a position of weakness.

He was always close to the NT. But he has defensive problems. Not that Pavard hasn't :D

Walker-Peters is getting an England call-up. Pochettino's management of him was criminal. Would be our best wingback now.
