Nathan Mackinnon - the best player in the league

This whole empty net points being a "negative" is just complete nonsense. Your team is up 1-3 goals and the other team pulls their goalie with 1-5mins left and you help score a goal to most likely win the game, yet that is a bad thing... I just don't understand the thought process to get that opinion
Same crap that people used on McDavid when he was scoring a billion power play points. People will hate just for the sake of hating. Just dumb arguments.

It’s not viewed as a “bad” thing. The argument is that the value of those points shouldn’t be weighted the same. I normally don’t bring up empty net points but Mackinnon is piling them up so fast you have to mention it when it comes to Hart discussions.

Dismissing discussions about the importance of different points is shortsighted, especially when you see arguments like the one from someone who said they’d pick Mack in a single elimination game to win it all. Clearly, not all goals carry the same weight, and a timely point to tie or win a game will always be valued more than an empty net point in a 3-1 victory.

If anything empty net points are more important than regular points. The game is on the line - the opponent ties it and you're back to square one. Putting the game out of reach is everything. Empty net points are the clutchest; if you don't hit that empty net people will laugh at you so the pressure is high. Mackdaddy just has the ice.

Avalanche fans still don’t get that most everyone bringing up ENP are only having a joke and doing so because of all the moaning they did about Kucherov last season. Take what you dish out with more grace and it would go away quickly.
I am pretty sure I was not one of those, so painting an entire fan base for something some did is probably not the greatest way to go about things. What do I know though, carry on

how many points this season without empty nets?
Here are the top 5 scorers in the league minus their ENP.

Mack has 58 points without ENP. 12-46-58 in 45 games.

Drai has 62 points without ENP. 29-33-62 in 44 games.

Kuch has 57 points without ENP. 18-39-57 in 40 games.

McD has 62 points without ENP. 19-43-62 in 41 games.

Rantanen has 48 points without ENP. 18-30-48 in 44 games.

I'd say also that ENP also means the opponent has an extra skater to pressure you with, other than not having a goalie. Often times empty net means the other team has possession of the puck too so it also means u need to force a turnover since nobody in their right mind pulls the goalie without having the puck lol.

Okay....maybe you need to show your work then? I don't think this really matters as best player is more subjective than this, but if you are looking at stats and looking at the numbers regardless of where they came from....so ignoring empty net points: MacKinnon has 75 pts in 45 games (1.56 ppg). McDavid has 62 pts in 41 games (1.51 ppg)....what math are you using to show that both end up with 127 pts per 82 games?

I always find these threads funny - the vitriol and hyperbole pop up fast and furious.

I’ll say this - Mackinnon is really, really fun to watch because he skates really fast, tries really hard, and does crazy skill stuff. Good for him!!

SO petty lol. Talking about grace

"A number of random people on the internet said things I didn't care for, so now I'm going to repeatedly stoop to the level I perceive them to have stooped, months later, just to prove a point (I guess) to the larger group of fans they belong to"

58 in 45 games. Good for a 1.29 ppg. He’d still be eighth in scoring without adjusting anyone else for ENP’s which would be stupid. I’m too lazy to figure out where everyone would fall without ENP’s. So it’s not like they make up half of his points.
only 6 5v5 goals too. not mvp material

I didn’t care about ENP when Kucherov piled them up and I don’t care that MacKinnon is doing it now. I’m pointing out to the confused Avs fans who seem unaware of what is going on. Notice how I’m not getting bent out of shape that you think I’m in that group when I’m actually not.

Neither players are better than McDavid, so it is what it is.

41 is his technical games played, but that includes the game where he played 30 seconds of icetime and got injured. For the 40 real games he has played, his pace is 1.55 pts/game, 1.55 x 82 = 127.1
