It’s not viewed as a “bad” thing. The argument is that the value of those points shouldn’t be weighted the same. I normally don’t bring up empty net points but Mackinnon is piling them up so fast you have to mention it when it comes to Hart discussions.

Dismissing discussions about the importance of different points is shortsighted, especially when you see arguments like the one from someone who said they’d pick Mack in a single elimination game to win it all. Clearly, not all goals carry the same weight, and a timely point to tie or win a game will always be valued more than an empty net point in a 3-1 victory.

58 in 45 games. Good for a 1.29 ppg. He’d still be eighth in scoring without adjusting anyone else for ENP’s which would be stupid. I’m too lazy to figure out where everyone would fall without ENP’s. So it’s not like they make up half of his points.

If anything empty net points are more important than regular points. The game is on the line - the opponent ties it and you're back to square one. Putting the game out of reach is everything. Empty net points are the clutchest; if you don't hit that empty net people will laugh at you so the pressure is high. Mackdaddy just has the ice.

Mack has 58 points without ENP. 12-46-58 in 45 games.

Drai has 62 points without ENP. 29-33-62 in 44 games.

Kuch has 57 points without ENP. 18-39-57 in 40 games.

McD has 62 points without ENP. 19-43-62 in 41 games.

Rantanen has 48 points without ENP. 18-30-48 in 44 games.

I'd say also that ENP also means the opponent has an extra skater to pressure you with, other than not having a goalie. Often times empty net means the other team has possession of the puck too so it also means u need to force a turnover since nobody in their right mind pulls the goalie without having the puck lol.

Okay....maybe you need to show your work then? I don't think this really matters as best player is more subjective than this, but if you are looking at stats and looking at the numbers regardless of where they came from....so ignoring empty net points: MacKinnon has 75 pts in 45 games (1.56 ppg). McDavid has 62 pts in 41 games (1.51 ppg)....what math are you using to show that both end up with 127 pts per 82 games?
