Nathan Mackinnon - the best player in the league

This whole empty net points being a "negative" is just complete nonsense. Your team is up 1-3 goals and the other team pulls their goalie with 1-5mins left and you help score a goal to most likely win the game, yet that is a bad thing... I just don't understand the thought process to get that opinion

Same crap that people used on McDavid when he was scoring a billion power play points. People will hate just for the sake of hating. Just dumb arguments.

It’s not viewed as a “bad” thing. The argument is that the value of those points shouldn’t be weighted the same. I normally don’t bring up empty net points but Mackinnon is piling them up so fast you have to mention it when it comes to Hart discussions.

Dismissing discussions about the importance of different points is shortsighted, especially when you see arguments like the one from someone who said they’d pick Mack in a single elimination game to win it all. Clearly, not all goals carry the same weight, and a timely point to tie or win a game will always be valued more than an empty net point in a 3-1 victory.

how many points this season without empty nets?

58 in 45 games. Good for a 1.29 ppg. He’d still be eighth in scoring without adjusting anyone else for ENP’s which would be stupid. I’m too lazy to figure out where everyone would fall without ENP’s. So it’s not like they make up half of his points.

Avalanche fans still don’t get that most everyone bringing up ENP are only having a joke and doing so because of all the moaning they did about Kucherov last season. Take what you dish out with more grace and it would go away quickly.

If anything empty net points are more important than regular points. The game is on the line - the opponent ties it and you're back to square one. Putting the game out of reach is everything. Empty net points are the clutchest; if you don't hit that empty net people will laugh at you so the pressure is high. Mackdaddy just has the ice.

I am pretty sure I was not one of those, so painting an entire fan base for something some did is probably not the greatest way to go about things. What do I know though, carry on
