How many boneheaded plays does Josi make per game?
Aren't nightcrawlers boneless?

Barron seems to be good for at least one extremely bone-headed decision per game, but if somehow that can get coached out of him, he might develop into a serviceable player. He has a lot of physical talents but might need to get a little bit meaner as well.
Don't forget he has a very fine neck.

I suppose so. Surely no one is calling him that anymore, right?
I haven't heard it in a while.

Always thought it was absurd to call someone an earthworm to emphasize how fast he was. I mean, why not "Look at him go! He's zooming around the rink like a sloth! Hold my laundry!"

Seriously, it's good standup, but bad sportscasting.

I think he has improved since getting here. He is our youngest NHL defenseman at 23. He definitely has some areas that need work but outside of Fabbro most of our recent NHL dmen didnt really start getting NHL games until they were 24/25. I hope we can develop him because you get some glimpses here and there of good potential

Good move to qualify the Preds "develop" with the word HOPE.

How'd barron look last game beside josi? And do people prefer barron or wilsby long-term?
Long-term, I'm content that both Wilsby and Stastney are NHL Players. They may not have huge upside. But they are players. They are also both LD. And don't have ideal size. So we aren't talking any great impact here, just they should always be in the NHL somewhere at least on a 3rd pair, just due to their skating ability and intelligence.

Barron? Still a total wildcard IMO. But since he's RD, he's not really competing with Wilsby/Stastney anyway. He WANTS to contribute more offensively, but it's questionable whether he really can at the NHL level since his skill level isn't there. He has better size, but needs to learn to use it. If he can ever settle into playing more conservatively and change his approach, he has the tools. I still peg him around 50/50 to do that. So far in a small sample he has been alright. But I'd still rank him behind Stastney and Wilsby as NHL players overall. :dunno:

Our plan seems to be that we don't like guys who don't have glaring weaknesses, but prefer guys with freak attributes. In Barron's case, the freak attribute is his giraffe neck.

For a while Stamkos was at a 15+20 pace. Then for the longest time it was 20+20.

Now he's basically at a 30+25 pace. Huge turnaround, and if he hadn't stumbled out of the gates, it would be close to a typical recent season for him.

But tell me more about how a player with a 60 goal season prior to Kucherov even entering the league was simply a product of Kucherov.

He's obviously not a play driver like he used to be, but I'll be damned if the dude still can't play center effectively with a player like Forsberg on his wing

Please dont' win anymore. As fun as last night was, I don't want the mushy middle any more. Please continue to suck so we can land a 1C.
I can't ever buy into this mindset. Play the games. We need to build something to move forward with next year. We can always hope to win the lottery and wind up in the top 3. I'd rather mushy in the middle for a year or two than become the next Buffalo.

That's something that should've been seen in camp and pre-season instead of waiting until an injury near Christmas and when the season was lost.

I'm not saying to overreach and try to buy assets at this stage. Just never go in hoping or wanting to lose.
The flip side of the coin is that these guys playing some decent hockey as a unit may mean: (1) Bruno may be learning how to coach better, which isn't a bad thing since Trotz is going to keep him for a long time apparently, (2) we're stuck with some of these guys for years to come, so them figuring out how to hockey might mean we're not stuck at the bottom for a decade or more, (3) winning is good thing for the few younger guys still around and who Trotz may not throw away or trade for an egg of silly putty.

I have always maintained that the ability to play well with skilled guys is itself a valuable skill, albeit one that is easily overlooked and tremendously underappreciated. "He's just a product of <other guy>" is a common dismissal levelled at folks who have that skill, because some folks can't tell the difference between an AHLer looking slightly better next to a star versus someone who manages to elevate both their own and the star's play when working alongside them.

An excellent example of this would be Fabbro, who epitomizes this on the blueline - he can't carry a pairing and so it's easy to write him off as valueless, but put him with a quality defenseman and both he and his partner will thrive above and beyond what any other Joe Schmoe would do in that circumstance. It's something a team builder needs to recognize and take advantage of where possible.

And, well, given how Fabbro was treated here, I'm not entirely shocked that this front office didn't realize that Stamkos in his old age has declined from "carries the play himself" to "skill enhancer". Obviously now they've adjusted and things are looking much better. If they continue to deploy Stamkos accordingly, then that would give me hope that maybe, just maybe, they've learned something from the Fabbro debacle.
