Maybe Trotz was just a little out of touch with the modern reality of the Nashville franchise? Like, at a certain point in time, you get a PForsberg or Kariya, and in some ways, it's almost who cares where the team is, that's a big coup that helps pump up interest in the team? You "go for it", but it doesn't really matter, it still generates enthusiasm, and the fans don't really know the difference if you get some depth veterans or draft/develop well? Even if the team isn't really any kind of contender, nor on any kind of track to be.

A lot has changed since Trotz left, however.... :dunno:

Maybe he wants to do a tear down, but that still doesn't explain the lack of return on Fabbro and Tomasino.
Uh, he definitely does not want to do a tear down.

Or he definitely didn't.

Maybe the worldview is changing now? I still doubt that very much. But everything he ever said was "Going For It".... which then transformed to "Uh, we will NEVER tear it down to the studs"... so... while I do see how Trotz has a bit of a habit of talking out of both sides of his mouth, and he talks A LOT, from both sides, I still honestly don't think he has "tear down" in his vocabulary. :dunno:

Trotz has set it up to where he cant "tear it down". Too many NMC and almost everyone not living up to their contracts.

NMC
Skjei - underperforming
Josi
Stamkos - underperforming
Forsberg
Marchessault - underperforming
Saros (starts next season)

Can move much easier
RoR - leaves us 1C sissons
Nyquist

Additional costly players without trade protection
Sissons - not a great season
Lauzon - who doesnt like hits
Carrier - i really hate this extension
Novak - underperforming
Schenn - see lauzon

He would have to pay at negative value to move a couple of his most recent signings. That is always a bad sign. :(

Could retain as well.

Im unsure how the Johansen saga works with the retention slot we used for him but we have atleast 1 now and another next season after Joey is done then another when Ekholms contract expires at the end of 25-26.

Either way we dont get rid of them for free

Actually not as hard as you think, just takes a bit of timing. Sissons, Lauzon, Nyquist, ROR and Schenn I think you could move at the deadline fairly easily. Value may not be great but you can move them.

Offseason, I think someone would take a gamble on Novak. Josi, Forsberg, and Saros could be moved if they want to be. Marchessault, Skjei and Stamkos could be if they want to be and you retained.

Carrier with some retention someone probably takes but who I don't know. Maybe a bottom feeder that just needs a body.

We have a quick trip to canada against TOR, MTL, OTT before returning home to host CGY.

MTL and OTT are in the sewers with us and TOR and CGY are firmly middle of the pack. Should be interesting.

OTT and MTL has been giving lots of goals but TOR and CGY are fairly stingy. Can we get some goals goin or do we continue to flounder. Should see the new backup in a game as well as TOR/MTL is back to back.

I'm not sure how impossible it would be to move someone like Josi or Forsberg. At some point you might think those guys would want to go somewhere they can win something. NMC is of course going to affect the return value, though.

They actually talked about Lauzon in the 32 Thoughts Podcast. Said that there would probably be interest in him should the Preds put him out there but Friedman also said that he knows the Preds really value Lauzon and can't see us moving him.

Lauzon and Carrier can f right off. Neither of them are NHL d-men on a competing team
I'm good with shitcanning our whole defensive group at this point (minus the two just called up). Turn the page, give a new person the C, let's get on with it. It'll suck for a few seasons but it is what it is.

Edit: I'm not advocating tanking, I am fed up with this entire sad sack roster outside a few players, but do realize dumping the lot will probably lead us into the toilet for a bit.

I can see teams interested in him. I think my biggest issue is that we give him 18+ mins a game and 2nd pairing responsibilities. As a 3rd pairing, hed probably give great value (same with carrier).

Also I just want to say how much I appreciate all you posters. The only reason this season has been enjoyable is because of all of you. Even you 101st even tho we were forced to block each other years ago!
A couple years back when HF was still experimenting with Live Chat setups (mostly based on IRC on the backend), we had a channel set up for HFCBJ. And it was organized under a simple principle: "We're all here to have fun, either because or in spite of what's happening on the ice." I like to think that's a nice way to run a community. :)

Hello guys.
As you can see on my avatar .... i am a long term fan of the Preds. Specially Josi :) ... a Swiss comrade :) .

i am not following hockey as much as i use to. But still keep an eye on it ... on the stats for the NHL. (it is during night here !!)

What is wrong with the preds ? on paper it is not a bad team. I understand that Peka Rinne isn't on board anymore :) LOL.
is Josi still up to what is asked from him ? i saw his stats aren't that bad ... except the +/- !
He still snipes like few .. specially in spite that he is well known for that and seems to still be champion on ice time vs the top lines in front of him.

tks if one of you can drop me some comments :)
have a good day.

Coach sucks, but the roster also doesn't fit the [uptempo, intense forecheck, transition, activated defensemen] system he wants to employ. Team is too reliant on vets that have been abysmal 5v5 and young players that probably fit the system better are getting limited icetime, scratched, and waived/traded.

Josi is the same 4th forward version that has increasingly popped up the last few seasons.

No a lot of joy in Mud...I mean Nashville currently.

Trotz said on the radio yesterday he and Brunette thought Fabbro and Tomasino had been replaced by younger guys coming in and their departure wouldn't hurt the team because Wilsby, Stastney, Svech and ZLH could step in.

While I like those guys, they should be replacing Schenn, Lauzon, Carrier or replacing guys like McCarron or Janko.

I seriously question managements ability to evaluate talent at this point.

And to that end, how many times already has Trotz said he tried to move someone but thought the prices were too low? I'm not 100% sure Trotz understands the trade market. I think that would be true of anyone stepping into a role like he has with very little experience so I don't blame him necessarily. It's just a confusing mess.

It's not just the whiffs on talent evaluation though. I mean I can understand if a guy doesn't fit a particular system and a change needs to be made. But why re-sign him if you think that? Why minimize his trade value and then get absolutely nothing for him? Who does that? Say nothing of the system being an objective disaster. We have Hall-of-Fame caliber players on this team and even they can't play this system.

And a GM has to have his eye on more than the next game. If you are vaporizing your 1st round picks that are NHL players today for even younger guys who have to go through the same growing pains and mistakes as the guys you didn't want to play and you throw your cap at guys that are on the downhill side of their careers, where is this team in 2, 3, 4 seasons?

PS: I notice that the list does not include Parssinen, Evangelista, or Novak. So I assume those guys will be the next guys to be sure not to have a chair in the Trotz/Bruno version of musical chairs.

Why the hell would you seek to replace the mid to lower 20s players instead of the mid to upper 30s players? Hockey is more and more being geared towards speed. Which one of those age brackets is going to be more likely to deliver that? Which one of those age brackets will have contracts that age better? Which gives you a cost advantage? Like wtf.

Now im almost certain we are going to extend nyquist.
