Do you remember Lyle from Spector's Hockey? He and I started about the same time, we both came over from the AOL Canadiens message board in the beginning when HF was in its early stages. He still posts some great stuff, I enjoy his musings as well. I remember the meltdown as well, the board was wiped with all content and usernames!

long story short, I tried to buy HF back in the early 2000's when I was buying dotcom's. We could never come to a deal, the guys they sold it to ended up doing the magazine fiasco. Sometimes I enjoy suring the wayback machine and looking at that deadly prospect pool, and cringing at the names people were drooling over. Good times and laughs!

damn you tried to buy HF, that must have been a big chunk of change as I heard rumors that when it was sold to crave it was 7 figures.

while you were buying dot coms i was trading them, that's why i never took up the offers I had from McKeens and ISS to scout for them as I was working in investment banking and didn't want to move for such little pay.

I don't think i've ever read spectors but I do recognize the name.

as for the old lists, i remember badly wanting us to draft Perezhogin, thought for sure he was going to be a very solid winger for us. Was big on Higgins too and of course Kosty since I had us drafting him. I was getting vhs tapes of him and Emelin and Korneev until my tapes I was sending to someone in Moscow got taken by the KGB or so she thinks. I still get a kick out of thinking that some KGB guy was sitting there watching some random Habs games I had recorded in exchange for the Russian prospects games since back then it was still the early days of the net and you couldn't get much info out of Russia let alone stream anything.

Crazy stuff after some 18 years of starting out at HF I find out you did the same job. I know there's a poster that I believe he was the one that took over for me, I want to say his name is Jason but i've never been great with names.

Love your enthusiasm for amateur scouting, you are one of the best here.

Regarding HF, It was a fair chunk of cash, but in the early dotcom days I was like lloyd and harry from Dumb and Dumber, throwing cash at everything with decent traffic. Some good ones, some really bad. Some I never want to think about again.

new ones I like are Palantir and Snowflake.
AirBnB comes out thursday. Will be overpriced.

I had Telsa on my radar, owned a couple shares but I can't get behind that valuation. Made the same mistake with amazon, thought 600 was too high a price to pay. I mostly invest in bio-tech though the past several years. Oil and gold have been good to me over the years though. Have a number of Cannabis stocks too, been very hit or miss as i've taken a beating on some OTC's that were full of shit but done well with APHA, VFF, IIPR, SMG (though not just cannabis of course)

ah well, win some and lose some. Now i'm hooked on trading Crypto, it's like being back in the dotcom frenzy. Good times!

I have looked at it for some time, I bought a stock that has some dealings with Bitcoin, symbol SI, it's been good to me but I should have bought more. It's down a bit today but I won't buy more as I don't like to raise my cost basis unless I really think it's going to run.

I have SOLO which is trying to be the Canadian Tesla, I got in just over 3 bucks a share but only bought a little as I didn't think it would do much but since the sector has been red hot I thought why not. When it jumped I bought a little more despite it being way above my cost basis, usually I don't like to do that as a rule though.

we should have a finance thread, always good to hear about people's ideas.

thanks, i have some things i'm working on for the channel, might do something just for the people that subscribe, maybe put up full games or something. It's all new to me so i'm still trying to figure things out but one thing I have been putting together is my top 30 but with a couple clips of each pick done in 3 parts so that it's not super long.

I don't think you can monetize off videos that arent original content on YouTube

Used to do highlights years ago for prospects, only the NHL ones seem to get copyright flagged. Not sure about now though.

@montreal if it isn't too much trouble, try creating an Instagram/Twitter page too and cross upload the best short highlights with you YouTube page linked in bio. Could boost your viewer reach, lot of hockey starved Habs fans out there.

He would just need to add commentary to be same and get more views tbh

i'm not on social media but have been thinking about starting up on twitter. will likely do that soon, thanks for the suggestion

i don't have a mic, i work off old stuff since i'm old, i'm the only person left it seems that doesn't have a smart phone and i dont have a tablet or labtop. but i will have to look into it as i've been thinking for some time about getting back into the scouting side. I used to do it somewhat back in the day when I worked for HF back when the site was more then just a message board.

Subscribed and advertised

thanks!

Stapley finished with 2 goals last night. His 3rd and 4th goals of the season.

He now has 7 pts (4G, 3A) in 11 GP.

with the win Denver joined the 1500 wins club, only Minnesota, Michigan, North Dakota and BC have done that in college hockey history.

one thing that might work to grow your subscription numbers is doing the whole 'Kaiden Ghule DESTROYS _____'. It's cynical and dumb but I think it works?

So I'm trying something new, not sure why it's taken me this long to think of it but if it goes over well I will run with it.

I have created a video of clips from my top 30 list, broken down into 3 parts. The first part is out, but I figure the next 2 will be a decent amount longer and 3 10's just seemed like a good idea.
