I'm curious between Muzzin and Martinez who's the better Dman these days? Martinez is abit older, but he plays on the right side which is what the Leafs are looking for and he's signed for an extra year compared to a younger Muzzin and signed for one year less.

Just wondering who would be the better fit for the Leafs between the two all things considered?

Muzzin is the better player all around.

Martinez plays RD which Muzzin does not though.

Muzzin is better, but Muzzin playing on the right side is just a giant question mark that we can't answer because he never did that with the Kings

Grundstrom is solid. I wouldn't be surprised if he plays NHL games this year. He plays a North American pro style game. Always has a lot of goals. Not much a playmaker.

Durzi is playing his overage season in the OHL this year. Just got traded to Guelph and is very hot. Looks like he has NHL-upside.

Can Muzzin play RD?

Muzzin has never played the right here but I think he would be fine. Plus you have him next year and can let Your ufa walk or move him instead of paying to much on his next deal and he will add some physical play which I feel your blueline can use.

Muzzin is better but never played the right side for LA so that part of the equation is a wild card.

All things being equal, I'd rather have Muzzin.

Muzzin gets another shot at a cup, good for him.
I will miss those things drawing with Drew episodes he was a part of and some other things like that, he was pretty funny.

He will do well in Toronto and he gets to go home, so he will settle right in.

Leaf fan wondering if muzzin was just having a down year this year due to playing on a struggling kings team. Or does he look like he has lost a step and will be declining? Grundstrom is one of my favourite prospects. You guys will love to have him. Durzi is an overeager but has good skills and I think he will be a nhl player in 3 or so years. 1st rounder will be some where in 20s to maybe 31(if we can do the unthinkable). This deal is a really good one for the kings.

Muzzin is having the best season of his career this year. Has not lost a step at all. He has been the most consistent player on our backend. In fact moving him should move us closer to a top 5 pick than a boarder line playoff team. Your team just got better for sure.

I'll miss Muzzin, he really stepped up this season and became a much better defenseman overall. Good haul though, it's nice to see the cupboard filling up.

I just looked this up, but I found this interesting. Durzi was the 52nd pick in last years draft. Literally one pick earlier was Akil Thomas. Blake must have had Durzi on his radar at the draft last year, but was probably shocked that Akil was still there at their pick.

There's also the Aiden Dudas connection there.

To everyone saying the pick will be a LATE 1st...

There definitely is the chance the Leafs go on a deep run. There is also a much better chance they do not. Its almost a certainty they do not leap over Tampa to claim 1st in the division which means they land 2/3 in which case they will likely play Boston who they CANNOT beat this year or seemingly any year in recent memory in the playoffs... that even includes Boston playing an AHL roster most of this year. To boot, Muzzin by defacto becomes the Leafs toughest player, outside maybe Kadri  which will make things tough in the playoffs. If the Leafs fall into the Wild Card they are likely they will likely get a TB matchup or a Wsh/NYI matchup which will be tough enough.

The return is very solid for Muzzin. It helps us two fold by adding assets and making us worse off now for better draft position.

You guys got a really really good package.

Grundstrom could arguably play now but should prob finish the year in the AHL. He’s incredibly gritty and pesty but has a lot of skill as well. Was a favourite among our prospects for leaf fans.

Some people aren’t too high on Durzi but I really like him. I think he’s gonna play and be a legit d-man. He’s absolutely destroying the OHL as a 20 year old but he’s got a lot of promise.

The way I look at the Durzi, boom or bust - the #1 and Grundstrom is a good return. If Durzi does not make it, still a decent trade. If Durzi makes it and is the 3rd pairing RHD
and plays, even better. Or, he plays fairly well in Ontario and holds promise, can still hold trade value. Let's bank on his upside and having O'Donnell and others work with him.
Especially since Brickley has been a little disappointing - good to have Durzi in the system. Strand holds potential. The Kings have a decent crop of D prospects now:
Clague, Mikey Anderson, Durzi, Phillips, Brickely, Strand. (and Walker and Roy)
Not giving up on Brickley. Sucks about his injury though.

Durzi played on Owen Sound last year, with Markus Phillips and Aidan Dudas. Watch the link on page 1 that Ziggy posted of Durzi highlights...some goals connecting with Phillips and Dudas.

I respect all your opinions,I just would expect one piece better than Grundstrom.Kasperi Kapanen type player is a fair value. Now you can rework the deal but that's the quality I would expect.Leafs got a good player for less value in my opinion.

I think you’re gonna be quite pleasantly surprised by Grundstrom. Durzi definitely isn’t a toss in either, got some pretty damn good value.

My fanbase overvalues everything. I read many posts that Muzzin is a #2. Is there any truth to this? If so, how many years? The bigger question mark is him playing on the right side.

You will love Grundstrom. He plays a very hard game. Sad to see him go.

Muzzin is better, but Martinez is more versatile in terms of playing on either side and blocking shots.

Muzzin played left defense almost exclusively.

Muzzin is more willing to take a big risk. It can frustrate fans, but it's his willingness to take a chance is what allowed him to grow.

Muzzin will make a nice partner for Reilly.....Leafs will be happy.

Muzzin is a #2/#3. Very good partner to Doughty or capable of anchoring the 2nd pairing. He was almost a left defense exclusively.

Martinez is a #4/#5. He plays on either side, but is a more stabilizing player.

Dayem so we got a 1st and a few throw in Minor Leaguers for Muzzin!?!?!?! I'll take that aaanyday baby. Win win for both teams. Love it.

ALRIGHT JAKEYBAKEY TIME TO INITIATE PHASE TWO

step one obviously was to play well enough to get traded for a first

step two is to sow the seeds of doubt within the team. hey matthews youre hiding your bald spot well! dont worry nylander, youll score more next year!

then make a couple of boneheaded moves each game

“haha thats just muzzin!” theyll say as he loses his man in the slot

“i see what he was trying to do” theyll say as muzzin ices the puck for the 3rd time in a row

muzzin. this is your true time to shine. do not let us down. we’ll see you in 2020.

"We're at the bottom of the league. We made this deal to make sure we stay that way."

Seriously, it is a solid move for the future. Two prospects with potential and a first for 1.4 seasons of Muzzin? I think Blake did alright here.

Hagelin traded soon, most likely. Have a feeling Grundstrom plays this week with Reign and is called up for Saturday's game.
If he stays in Ontario longer, no big deal. He can play LW or RW too, apparently. Didn't Wagner get injured in a Reign game? How bad?

Line 2 and 3 are apx equal, perhaps - but both more like line 3's than line 2's !

Kovalchuk Kopitar Brown
Leipsic Carter Toffoli
Iafallo Kempe Grundstrom
Clifford Thompson Wagner
Luff

Forbort Doughty
Fantenberg Martinez
Phaneuf Ladue
Walker

Quick
Campbell

very happy to have Muzzin on the Leafs now.
sad to see Grundstrom go :( but at the same time, as a dynasty owner I should be happy. he might make the NHL later this season in LA. I hope he turns into a real solid player going forward for you guys. price was steep but it was worth it.
