Rinne seems to be mentally broken against the Jets, maybe due to his playoff meltdown last year.

Helle seems to be mentally unfocused if he doesn't have another keeper on the Jets bench biting at his heels for the starting spot.
You might be right about Rinne but Helly was pushed by no one last season and was a Vezina finalist . Goalies are voodoo , and for some reason this season Helly is trying to play the puck like Hextall .

Steve Mason was brought in as the number 1. He started in that spot at the beginning of the season. Mason was Helle's motivation last year.

Are you implying getting his contract has caused him to play worse?

He doesn't strike me as that kind of person, but you never know I guess.
im just saying it gave him a lot of motivation last year. but most players are like that in a contract year.

It was clear after a month that Mason was not good to be the number 1. There's 6 other months with no one pushing him.

After watching that game, and with that effort, does anyone still think we need to give up a first rounder, a player and a prospect for a 3 month rental?
Jets have what they need to win without risking the future. That became clear last night.
When they want it bad enough, they are a championship caliber team.

Maybe there has been a method to Maurice's madness all along regarding the fourth line? Lemieux sure doesn't look like a guy who "contributes" nothing as many were angrily declaring earlier in the season. He's a young player, he's developing his game and now that the 4th is starting to click they're earning more minutes (versus Mo "balancing the ice time" earlier in the season before they were ready).

Side note, Lemieux now has the same career number of goals as Petan in 31 games played vs 108. I think the kid has legitimate talent and aside from some stupidity in Finland has locked down the discipline stuff. I've enjoyed our fourth line the last few games. They're mostly young so they're going to have off games but they seem to be coming along nicely.

Also glad to see Hellebuyck rounding into form. I'll admit I was really concerned earlier in the season. We're only at the half-way point but I like the trajectory we're on.

I think I heard Beyak mention during the broadcast that Rinne's SV% was only .888 over the last dozen or so games so he may have been already broken, or cracked at least...

Anyone else starting to really dislike Pp2?

Not feeling Laine in the slot either. The long stick don't work there
Laine in the slot compressed the D more so the outside lanes are more open, but the seam pass has disappeared. Scheif doesn’t have the same shot from the left hash that Patty does either. Only benefit is not having watch Laine turn it over at the blue line.

Nice to see Helle finally have a good game. As I suspected, it's all mental with him, and he needs extra motivation to stay focused.

So I am pretty sure when Maurice imagines what his 4th line could bring in an intense playoff series last night was his wet dream version of it. I have always believed Petan could bring more to that line but last night I got what PMo was visioning. I feel like they have been very flat the last few games so it was nice to see them playing faster and more in sink last night.

For any Laine fans who think Jets fans don't give Laine his due I think you will notice in a goaless night everyone here is saying that he had a really good night. I think that might have been one of Laine's best games of the season.......just pin your ears back and play hockey in top gear son and everything else will work itself out.

Sami Niku has arrived officially. I was mildly concerned Vegas was going to be a spike for now but he followed that up with an even better game last night. I know we are not asking him to do the heavy lifting yet but he might already be our most naturally gifted offensive asset from the D core. Its hard to describe it but its so much like Connor's breakout moment last season when you go........this isn't luck this is some bad-ass skills and a young star flexing his muscles. The difference between Connor and Niku is Kyle was playing with the best players so it was a bit more difficult to validate. Right now Sami is doing this with Joe Morrow so there is no asterisk needed.

Is it just me or does it seem like Roslo is starting to really feel it? He is looking more like Ehlers with his speed and puck control and his confidence is increasing.

Kuli and the new pig spine.........thank you Dr Frankenstein. Myers is very unlike the guy wearing the same number early this season. Once he started getting big minutes everything changed.

Helle throwing up his middle finger to the disbelievers.

Last night I felt like I was watching a team that could win a Stanley cup

What was Subban’s injury? He was off a while

Pride.

Just watched the replay. Fun game and nice to see such strong play from the 2nd and 4th lines, from I’veGotWinz2 Heele and, of course, from Garret9’s Large Son, of whom we share custody.
