In fairness to Blais, idk why Vesey is curling back there. Vesey is constantly curling back like that when it's not the right play.
And that's why he has no business anywhere near a top line, ever again.
I want Drury and Gallant to sign riders to their contract that if Vesey so much as sniffs PP time with anything less than a 4 goal lead, or if he plays more than 17 minutes in a regular season game, or if he is on the same line as any 2 players who are in the top 10 in team scoring, they agree to be terminated for cause and forfeit the rest of their conracts.
Kids looked better today, other than Laf's offensive zone penalty. But I'd gladly take that over the nondevelopment of someone else in that spot. Great deflection. Ironically, when Lafreniere becomes MORE aggressive, I think he'll take fewer offensive zone penalties - most now are careless stick fouls and holdings from trying to get position vs. finishing his checks consistently. It was good to see Laffy smiling again. Trouba also looked like he enjoyed that one. Kakko is the only player in the NHL who can simultaneously score 0 goals and almost have a hat trick the same night. Still, he looked better than he has in weeks on Zibanejad's wing and I hope he can stay there this time. Like, for the rest of the season.
Kravtsov continues to impress me with his play away from the puck when his team has possession. Trocheck had a great scoring chance that Kravtsov helped create simply by taking two defenders with him to the net which allowed Panarin to find Trocheck in the high slot cutting towards the net. A less aware forward turns to face the play and skates backwards down into the corner to provide a "safe" passing option for Panarin there, which only pulls one defender, and Trocheck doesn't get that opportunity. Also, for everyone who still thinks Kravtsov is soft, the effort is there. In the first, a forward took some whacks at Shesty and he went in on him with the roughing and the headlocks. Good to see he's willing to stand up for a teammate.
Amazing how moving players around the lines seemed to energize the play. Now maybe let's leave them there because the previous lines were not working.
Shesty was brutal tonight, but Binnington was worse. Surprised Trouba didn't try and bomb one in on him from the redline to break the goose egg in the goal column the way he was letting them in.
We are probably the worst team in the NHL at scoring in empty nets when the other team pulls their goalie.
