Great trip! It started when we booked the Billy Joel concert in March. Then, I wanted to show the GF some roads and places. We had planned a 12-day trip, that was prolonged when the lady saw the other concert on a FB ad (of course). In between, I had planned for her a visit of Washington, DC. Great 2 day stay, including the obligatory stop in Georgetown.

Myrtle was a 5-nighter, and after we changed the itinerary to come back on Sunday instead, by making a stop in NJ for the show.

Awesome road trip. I’m a sucker for those. I just love to drive, man. And the lady has a comfy 4-Runner Trail Edition, so all was good.

Oh! And I brought back some American germs: ze Covid again! She had stayed too long away from me I suppose! Prolly caught it in the numerous greassy spoons we ate in.
So sry you caught it again. I am wary of the risks but a trip like that is hard to pass up. Thx for the follow up and hope you get through the virus real soon. 🤞🤞🤞

It’s a soft landing for sure compared to the previous time. After 4 days, I cough and I sweat some and that’s about it now. FlashCovid lolol. Thanks for good wishes buddy.

The Island
Just had a flashback of my student days when I’d do wedding gigs to earn extra cash.

This song used to be on the repertoire of many bands, probably still is for some:

As a drummer, you can play this while sleeping. Great opportunity to people-watch.

Et je me suis assis, sur son visage.

Nowhere land
I've found two records worth of mention of 1969 and 1970.
Seatrain first album 1969 and Randall's Island 1970.
Seatrain was a fusion group of folk, rock, funk, jazz and traditional (there is a violon player, lol).
Not really mainstream listening record but almost pop progressive folk-rock. Some experiment and trying to create a concept album. It was popular at the time.
Second album and 3rd albums are repeating the first album with more finesse work but less freshness of the first. George Martin produce two albums, I think the 2nd and 3rd. They sound like almost as good as Crosby Stills and Nash but can't make a song that is catching. They lacked something but they were close. They were popular in New England usa. This is a hippy record. A real one.

Elliott Randall, the guitar player who did the solo in Reeling in the Years from Steely Dan in 1972, he did his own album in 1970. A of a mix of jazz, rock, blues, funk, psychedelic and heavy rock. Very interresting some moments (and torture some other moments, lol). One of the first fusion album that have some taste and funny experiment. I like when they had flutes in a folk jazz moody music. So before he did his insane guitar solo in Reeling in the years, he proved he was a hell of f** good guitar player. Not for everybody but worth to listen for those who like fusion jazz.
There is a good naive soft song around 4 min, followed by heavy torture music, lol. The best stuff starts at 23:20 till the end. We can hear at guitar he's approaching Hendrix, Page and Zappa.
After Robidas Island, this is Randall's Island. :pcheer:

I was with my GF but the others were ss couples, and we got a bit of tude from some, nothing overboard like how they would get treated outside of their world.

Feist was opening for Arcade Fire on their current tour when allegations surfaced from multiple women about sexual misconduct perpetrated by lead singer Win Butler.

A detailed account of the allegations which are substantially based on “he said, she said”, is laid out in the following piece: Arcade Fire’s Win Butler Accused of Sexual Misconduct by Multiple Women; Frontman Responds

There is also a trail of evidence of a mid-30s guy who is married, has a son and is interacting with or pursuing starry-eyed young women in their early 20s and who is clearly in a position of influence but who is claiming that it was all consensual.

A lengthy piece that offers a lot of introspection from all sides and how all parties have submitted social media evidence to support their claims, which for one of the young women involved included receiving pics of Butler’s genitalia that she is asserting was unwanted and unsolicited. Butler’s alleged advances which come across as forceful, are expressed in vivid detail.

A thorough but gripping and informative read, if you want to take the time.

A couple things I've been listening to lately:

Billy Woods' new album, Aethiopes. The son of a literature professor and an ex-Rhodesian revolutionary, his lyrics are soaked in the history and politics of both the American and African continents, and steeped in references to important literary works. Until this album, 2019's Hiding Places was my favourite of his, but Aethiopes has to be considered his magnum opus, almost 20 years into his rap career. For me, it's the essential album of 2022. Here's one track, entitled Sauvage.

Another album from a band I just discovered recently, God's Country from Chat Pile. What made this album an instant hit for me, is its similarity to the earlier works (Filth, Cop, Greed) from noise rock legends, Swans. It deals in the same sometimes-mechanical, plodding heavy riffing and bombastic rhythm sections, as well as lyrical content such as alienation, depression, violence and disappointment with self and society. The vocal delivery is also quite reminiscent of Michael Gira's earlier performances, in that it's simultaneously powerful and commanding, yet tortured. On the off-chance anyone is coming from a similar musical background, you'll definitely appreciate these guys.
