Taking the Lady to Grand Forks tomorrow...

Taking in Alan Jackson @ the Alerus Center Saturday...

Prepping for the drive down on My portable drive with some new additions to it's volume...

I remembered to add this live version of an old rock classic...

From their home town at the Court Tavern...

A nice clean live performance...

It's funny how in our lives we can miss things that would be significant to us... and we feel more loss wanting to have known at the time... but missed it...

A favorite artist of mine died in February of 2022 and I didn't know it until now...

Mark Lanegan...

Mark had a dark, troubled past, very early in his life and found a way to survive and perform masterpieces of what I call American Fado... like the original Portuguese folk singing... songs that are mournful, thoughtful, reflective, melancholy, fateful... regrets... in his modern form...

Here are three of many favorites of mine...

A Mark Lanegan Elegy...

And from My favorite album of Mark's, Whiskey for the Holy Ghost...

Shit...

Seeing him in a small bar... which he would do was on My bucket list...

Another one gets away with out Me ever seeing them live...

Final dedication and very fitting... El Sol... definitely darkened days for Me... R.I.P. Mark...

Some low key bangers that'll get those toes tappin'

2 are from Leon Bridges...well, I just like to promote him. He is identified more for his slower, serious songs. But he has a wide range of musical tempo that can please almost any ear.

Last one from Bryan Ferry. Ferry is a British musician/songwriter who started the band Roxy Music which included Brian Eno. This song is from the 1978 album "Manifesto" which was a reunification with Roxy Music. Roxy Music split up in 1976 but got back together with different band members in 1978. Brian Eno was not a part of the new band. "Angel Eyes" was completely re-recorded from the album version to be released as a single.

This is the original album version. Posting this, this is the first time I've heard the original version. I only learned about it through Wiki'ing this song.

Happened upon this article just now and found it pretty interesting. Sailing is one of those songs that I both hate and love at the same time. Hate, because it sort of represents an overly polished, "studio musician" sound that - as a punk/indie/alternative sort of guy - I always found really off-putting. But, love because I just find it kind of irresistibly "soothing" or something. I was unfamiliar with Cross's history - I was actually always under the impression that he had been a long-time music guy in a studio sense who had then started doing his own songs. I had no idea that "Christopher Cross" was actually the name of a band rather than his name or that the album Sailing was on was basically his first real recording. I of course was familiar with the "legend" of how the arrival of MTV basically killed his career because he was such an - errr- "un-inspiring" artist in a video sense but I'd always thought he'd had a longer career before that happened. Anyway, interesting article.

Actually, I have a soft spot for 70s/80s soft rock in general. Also, my tastes have changed over the years and I'm not nearly as militant about things as I was in my younger days. I've even become a big Steely Dan fan over the past few years! lol...but you can keep your damned Journey! yuck!

The guy who does these videos is the same as the Molly Hatchet video I'm not allowed to post due to forum rules. He does an excellent job on his videos.

Saw A Clockwork Orange for the first time in 1983 at U of M during Celebration week in 100 St. Paul's College. I'd heard people rant about it for months but had never seen it so I went to it. To say it was eye opening is a massive understatement.

Back from Grand Forks...

Couldn't get Mark Lanegan's death out of my mind...

His tunes always were a companion when I would chill in my back yard at night with just the pool LED cycling...

His music always made me think and feel...

This was one of them....

Beggar's Blues... I love the line "I'm draggin' loneliness, and it's 10 miles long" followed by "I thought I heard you scream baby, in the wheels of a train that crawls, and I don't wanna go, because you forget me when I'm gone"...

Haunting shit... when I have made mistakes in my life with my Lady these lyrics ring so true... brilliant stuff...

Oh ya... the Alan Jackson concert at the Alerus Center...

Wow... !!! What a diverse crowd...

Families... teenagers... lots of middle agers, near seniors (me and my Lady) and very old folk...

City people and most certainly the country peep's...

Lots of young women dressed to their 9's in the mid-drifts and cut-off blue's...

And more surprising... the young cowboys... who came to party and sing a long...

It was extraordinary...

I think this is Last Call for Alan... he shambled as he moved on stage... his neurological disease taking hold...

But he still can sure sing... and tell a story... and still be the good old boy he is... so genuine and someone I identify with...

Here is a tune that I privately shed a tear to as I held my lady swaying with her, in the cell phone lighter swaying crowd... like I said... I identify with... I married my high school sweetheart etc. ... 😍

Glad you enjoyed the show. Saw him here at MTS years ago (Terry Clark opened, I believe) and it was a great show.

Album #17
The Cars - Panorama (1980)
Of the first 5 Cars albums, this was the least popular but by far the most underrated. It has some great early 80's Devo influence and a bit of Talking Heads feel as well.

Panorama

Touch & Go

Don't Tell Me No

Up and Down
Here's a live version of Up and Down.. probably the heaviest song by The Cars.

David Bowie - Aladdin Sane (1973)
My David Bowie collection continues with his second album with The Spiders From Mars band.. This one was mostly written as he toured America circa 1972 with a huge American influence throughout the recording.

The Jean Genie

Drive-In Saturday

Album #20
The Kingbees - (self titled) (1980)
A bit of punky new wave power pop rockabilly from 1980.. These guys were hugely influenced by Buddy Holly. Had only one moderately successful hit..
