Would seem to be the season and given I am at the Jets game tomorrow night it is improbable that I will make my traditional Friday post. I will likely be drinking Christmas eve and posting, but in case I get a life and do not I wish you all the best of the season be it Christmas, Hanukah, Festivus, Kwanzaa or whatever you may or may not celebrate. I truly enjoy this community, conflict and all and very much appreciate those inclined to the music thread. I have found many gems from others here and feel indebted for what has been brought to my attention that I would otherwise have missed.

Arguably a hugely influential song from my youth. I recall going to the school library to watch this from a film projector. CBC would broadcast it but if you missed it the library would back you up. The Peanuts gang was big for me. I still have a thing for redheaded girls. Curse you Charlie Brown.

The avatar should explain the following. It is one of my nicknames amongst my friends.

Just chillin' on a chilly Wednesday night...

It's night... but there is light...

I play this every Christmas Eve as the sun sets. It's standard J-Pop stereotype stuff -- chirpy and pleasant beat combined with lyrics about the horrible loneliness of pining for a deceased lover :P -- but it's a chance to think of all the people I miss; my own Angels of Christmas Eve, whose bells chiming I can hear in my heart to announce that Christmas is here.

And while I'm talking about musical stereotypes, like if it's a Spanish language song about a woman, it seems it's entirely approbative about a woman who is completely unhinged.

Like okay, take the standard old "Livin' La Vida Loca" we all know and love, yeah? I found the Spanish version and started working through it, and here's the first two verses in translation:

The queen of the night,
the voodoo goddess.
I can't save myself.
Can you save yourself?

The spider's web,
the dragon's claw.
She'll take you to hell,
she's your addiction.

She'll kiss you and undress you with her crazy dance.
You close your eyes and let yourself get dragged away.

... like holy shit, Scoob, what woman is he singing about? Grendel's mother?

Eh, but if Ricky Martin is singing it, he can make it sound sexy, so I guess it's okay :P
